I'm very sympathetic.
Kidney stone is reckoned to be the most painful event - for men, anyway. It certainly seemed so when it happened to me.
At least the op nowadays is not so bad, they stick a fibre optic cable up your waterworks and play blasting video games until they score a bullseye and shatter the stone. Still a full-anesthetic night-in-hospital event though.
It happened to me just a week before we were due to go to Samoa, so that was a frantic week.
The real fun comes when CAA hear about it. They pull your medical immediately, and it took me months to get that back as they are real scared of a repeat episode while you are at the controls and the resultant plummeting.

I am seeing a pattern here, perhaps the prolonged use of theforum causes kidney stones? I wonder if I can get a grant to study this. They say that beagles make very good lab experiment animals, maybe I can cut you in Beags.

Even the cat was looking at me funny as I was lying on the ground close to tears. Had to get a few loads of morphine during the early hours, finally got a few hours sleep about 5am. Then a couple of young nurses started their shift and looked after me. The doctor saw me at about 7am and was going to send me home as most of the pain had gone, but I said i wnated the ct scan etc to make sure. That showed a 4mm stone had moved down the tube from the kidneys to sit at the opening to the bladder to which he said this size will easily pass into the bladder and down the uretha. Just wish it would hurry up as can still fell the pain of it sitting there in the tiny shaft. The ct scan also showed a 7mm stone in the other kidney which he said could pass tomorrow, next week, next year or even never. Hoping the last. was awake when some people brough in breafast. mmm the smell of freshly cooked bacon, eggs, baked neans was nowhere to be smelt. It reminded me of a SATS flight with a wee box containg a pottle of yogurt, small fruit juice and small tub of peaches.

Good luck Beagle & hope the stones exit real quick. Bacon, eggs & baked beans being served to patients in hospital is but a distant memory, bastard food police. If your missus complains about your time on the forum, just tell her its therapy

I'll help you write the research proposal but you can do the ethics application That should keep you occupied for quite a while.

Being an expert in the field of medicine (not), I am fairly sure the correct preventative measure to avoid kidney stones, and once diagnosed with them, to deaden the pain and get them out of the system, one should drink copious quantities of beer? ;D ;D ;D
Seriously, I understand it is an extremely painful condition, especially the final outward journey...hope your path to wellness is as quick as possible with the pain part being as little as possible. Put simply, I hope the rotten little rock doesn't have too many jagged edges.
Best wishes, ON.

Have been telatively pain free since tuesday nite, not sure if it has passed or not, pretty sure it has, but I have been listening and looking when I go the big boys room. My only worry now is that there is a second double the size one still there. what would happen if it was just at the start of say a flight from AK to LA, would they turn around just for me or do they have morphine on board international flights, or they just grab the whisky bottle.

Throw you over the side. At the time, you will agree that it is the more pleasant option.

Tentatively pain free, kinda like when you just stop hiccuping, constantly under stress that there's more waiting to sneak up on you at the worst possible moment.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. We have a flash new cleaning machine at work that has , apart from real harsh cleaning fluids an ultrasonic device. I'm sure no-one would notice you among a few hydraulic manifolds! ;D

Just looked at the St John website. Looks like I might get a wee bit of paper in the mail box with a bill for $67.00 Not as bad as if you are in aussie. Mates son was in an accident and the cops called an ambulance and he got the bill. $900.00 ouch, think I might have taken the bus.

If you join St Johns you have an annual subscription that covers the whole family and you get to use the ambulance as much as you need to for free. A good idea.

Yeah, when i had to call the ambo for the other half they sent us a bill. I knew it was coming (dad went into anifilaxis a while ago and got one) I said to the ambo crew "bills in the mail?" and he stopped and thought about it and said "yeah they probably sent it out before we got here"
