I think we were there purely as reconnaisance and information relayed back to Command. Les may be able to tell you more.

Yeah Mike, it was f#$%ing hot in there until the air con kicked in. We normally did the preflight before sun up to avoid the heat, and a few of us were known to not sleep all that well so may as well go and get the aircraft ready early. Worst day was when I forgot to snib the main door locks and it shut fully with the aircon on, talk about pressurising the fuselage, has to use hand signals to get the guys outside to kill the aircon and then still had to wait a while before I could get the door open against the pressure. Temp gauge near the flightline. Yes, thats 65.6 degrees C in the sun.
