This was compered by Ewan McGregor (yes the Star Wars one!) and his brother, Colin - ex RAF (lucky bugger gets to fly the Lanc! And the Dak!) Its now in production as a Region 2 only dvd (though you can play that on computer/laptop) via Amazon with a release date of June 4. Heres the link: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007A1FUF2There is also a short clip on you tube of about 3mins if you want a taster... Not as good as Into the Wind but still worth getting if you are into Bomber Command!

The McGregor brothers also did a Battle of Britain episode a while back, was very entertaining.

As a general rule, it's only the “name brand” DVD players which refuse to play DVDs that aren't from a specific region. In my rack of audo/visual equipment, I keep an el-cheapo Dick Smith brand DVD player. It will play anything in any format and for any Region. As I result I'm not too fussy about purchasing DVDs meant for Regions other than the one for this part of the world.

My basic Sony DVD player from DS for $75 two years ago, it plays any DVD from any zone. I used to use a Playstation for DVD viewing, but it definitely would not play anything other than Zone 0 (free from zoning) or 4.

Not quite true, Pioneer are R0 out of the box, LG (and all their OEM) can be unlocked very easily as a general rule. Easy enough to google the prospective model and find out. A lot of big name brands can be unlocked without difficulty.

I understand that it might be harder with Aussie-sold ones, something to do with their "Free Trade Agreement" with the USA??

Not really, not much of an issue. Most players are R0 or easy to unlock. I have 4 players, all R0 and only one needed a code fed to it (LG).
The main offenders are those that were/are part of the DVD consortium. They will invariably be region locked and unlockable. I think Sony fall into that category. Same deal with BLURAY although most players are still locked due to stricter licensing. Companies that were part of the HDDVD group (Paramount) generally produce region free bluray movies too. The original HDDVD spec did not have region encoding so they have stuck with it. It can be a bit of a minefield.
