Colin - That shot of the four Harvards head on above the trees reminds me of Pearl Harbour a lot... love the photos!! Yes reminds me of Pearl Harbor too. i could see them heading my way so waited till they were in the right position and pushed the shutter. Cheers

Having seen all the previous great shots posted already I was hesitant to post these but as they are a different perspective here they are. When is someone going to preserve this. Please Mr Dwen. On another thread someone asked about tractor tugs. Are these the same vintage? Tails anyone? I know others have mentioned about getting the Strikemaster and Skyhawk in the same shot but how about the threesome. From basic to full blown jet jockey. ;D Anyone know why the Harvard made a quick stop followed buy little flick and then take off again. What star is that photographer capturing and any one know who he is? Beaver taking off and white out condition? This is the reason I can't wait to get my Cannon EOS600D My little poke and shoot can't handle these.

Frank landed 65 because the canopy emergancy release failed and he couldn't reset it, once reset he rejoined the assault on the airfield

Thanks Ralph. Glad it wasn't something major. I would like to add that it was an enjoyable day and can't wait for the next one. Pity about the Mustang and Spitfire but you can't fly a plane without a Pilot and planes do go US at the most critical times. Still the Yak made up for it. Good work. Keep it up. Highlight was the Yak and Magister with her flying display. Low point was not bringing a seat again. A very sore back at the end of the day. A few more loos would go down well.

Point taken on the loos ... we have a debrief on Sunday and that will be mentioned
I was very close to where the guy with the 500mm lens was in the photo of Frank in 65, I'm surprised I wasn't in the photo
Next open day will be on the 9th December there will be no Battle of Britain Open Day this year

I believe Ron Dwen passed away over a decade ago.Your pleas of preservation may fall on deaf ears corsairarm. However its still there waiting for someone to save it.Hopefully a to a better fate than the other Bristol that went to Waihi beach.

Corsairarm I was very close to where the guy with the 500mm lens was in the photo of Frank in 65, I'm surprised I wasn't in the photo I believe he may be Chris Opperman, I've bumped into him a couple of times at North Shore - most recently on Saturday when he was talking about going to the Open Day. Very nice chap and great photographer, kindly sent me a shot he got of me just after I landed as well as several others taken at Ardmore. A bit of lens envy on my behalf though Cheers, Stu.

Not forgetting that there is indeed an open day on the 29th of September at Ardmore, for the Mossie.
Great shots Stu, I really like that one of the Skyhawk, the lighting is superb!

Magic photo's. Thanks to all you lucky b******s who were able take the photos and share them with us all. The numbers of Warbirds and other aircraft there seems to be a larger fleet than the 2012 RNZAF. Bobajob

I've spoken with two work contacts who took their families to the Open Day after I had emailed them about it a few weeks ago. They all had a great time, and were especially impressed by the variety of ground displays in addition to the expected air displays. Well done everyone.
