Just thought I would post some pics of a project my father is doing for the Feilding and Districts Historical Society on the Feilding War Memorial. He has gathered the names of all the servicemen listed on the WWI honors list and has researched these names and found photos and other information about them. The photos of the servicemen came from the old Auckland Weekly News magazine. My father has a collection of the Auckland Weekly News centre photo spreads from 1898 through to 1972, in yearly bound volumes. The war year's volumes are about 2.5 inches thick with images of servicemen killed, wounded, missing and others. I have helped him with taking photos from the books and laying it out on his computer. It has been very interesting for me to see photos of servicemen, to what are just names on the honors list. There are still some blanks to fill in at this stage but it is an on going process. The first picture show the project kindly displayed in the window of the local Feilding Paperplus store, which looks out towards the Memorial. The second shows the spread from the Auckland Weekly News from 27th May, 1915

My great Uncle's name is on the Feilding war memorial, from WW2. He was killed over Germany on a bombing raid.
