Don, Have you thought of enquiring with the Nowra Museum? Continually they surprise me with their photos, although I have not been there to see all the collection, I would think that they have at least the "official" photos of RNZAF Skyhawk related ceremonies and publicity photos that may not have found their way to the RNZAF? Just a thought. As an example below is one (poorly focused) example of NZ6217 which I guess is somewhere over the South Coast of NSW, but it could be anywhere. Sorry don't have details. The museum could sort that out if required. Bob "Windy" Geale would be your contact there: bobgeale@optusnet.com.au Bob Geale has been at museum since beginning, he is a retired Observer (Navigator) from the S2 Tracker era, formerly of the Canadian Navy from way back. Regards from Phil Thompson.

There was also a movie made of 2 Sqn at Nowra in their final months by an Australian video production outfit - I saw the shorts of the footage in 2002 and it was going to be awesome. Anyone know what happened to it as I never heard anything more of it? It was going to be made into a TV documentary I think. They mounted a special camera pod on the aircraft with forward and rearwards facing digital cameras as well as cockpit mounted cameras. If anyone has a copy of that footage then I would be very interested in trading some of mine! Greetings... There are a number of posts on various sites at the moment regarding our documentary - Supersonic Life. This post should add a little clarity. Supersonic Life is a Shoot Management Production - www.ShootManagement.com.au, the editing of which was outsourced to Digital Dimensions, best know for their international award winning natural history projects for Discovery, National Geographic and other cable television networks. Although several networks have expressed interest in the documentary, they are more interested in a series as opposed to a one off 52 minute documentary; on that basis a 'rough cut' was produced to offer the networks an insight into the kind of footage available and the personalities involved should a series be produced. This rough cut was screened for Easy and Oz in Townsville. Unfortunately after several international meetings with Discovery and other networks regarding the project; no firm financial commitments were forthcoming, so it was decided the cost of producing a series on spec wasn't viable. We then decided that we would absorb the significant post-production cost, with the aim of recovering it by way of individual unit sales, and making the dvd avaible for purchase from January 2007. Market research has suggested this is also not viable, due to the high probability of low unit sales as a result of unauthorised replication and distribution of the DVD. The Supersonic Life documentary is now not going to be released as a stand-alone DVD; instead it has been decided to include the documentary as part of the new Defence Force DVD series - on Issue 1, thereby alleviating the need for individual unit sales to recover production costs, and unauthorised replication thereof will instead be encouraged as opposed to litigated. The advertiser driven Defence Force DVD series is in production now, with the first issue being released in the 1st quarter 2007. The product will be completely downloadable, and free of charge to registered users. Visit www.DefenceForceDVD.com.au for more information and updates. A bi-monthly downloadable magazine will also be available from site in December 06' Regards, Terry Turner Shoot Management Pty Ltd Ps. With all that said, should we be able to obtain the 'missing element', i.e additional in-cockpit T-Bird footage, which was restricted due to the loss of the second T-Bird at sea, and flying time limits placed on the other, a 52 minute version would most likely attract a network sale. We are therefore hoping to acquire such footage should the sale of the Skyhawks materialise, and upon them commencing their pre-delivery test flights - or to source such additionl footage. So let us know if you have any...

As I've had some correspondence from the producers of Supersonic life in the past 24 hrs I'd just like to state that I do not intend to put this footage on the web site, and once I found out that it was to be produced that was never my intention.
I've also taken down the offending post. Might be an idea Dave if you purge any comments related to the distributing of this production. Below is the text from one of the e-mails which explains the process the producers have to go through to sell it to a TV station etc.
Note: this wasn't a threat (well I haven't taken it as one) but as can be seen, I could have unintetionally caused a few problems.

Calum, Your last post is certainly appreciated; the internet provides an easy conduit for rapid content distribution, we certainly leverage as much as we can out of it with sites like www.BoatTest.com.au and others being owned and operated by my company, but once the content gets "out there" little can be done to reel it back in. The Paris Hilton video is a perfect example. Thanks for your understanding. Cheers, Terry

Hi chaps,
First of all, I have only just got back for a long absense and not been following progress here too closely, so bear with me.
I want to say thanks to Barnsey for posting those excellent photos on page 3, and others for the subsequent links. Also thanks to Terry for explaining the situation with the television programme/DVD.
Calum, is there still a need for me to do any moderation on this matter anywhere - if so, whereabouts? As I say, I've been away and lost the thread of this a bit. Cheers mate.

As a publisher, I had the honour of looking through Nick Lee-Framton's history of Alpha Four Kilo a year of so ago. It was a very complete, competently written history of NZ's Skyhawks.
Lee-Frampton's work was complete not only with personal interviews with Skyhawk pilots but also with the meticulous details needed in a history book such as the various government White Papers on the planes.
I had no qualms about publishing this material, on the basis of its quality of writing and research. I held back because the target market was perhaps too small to be profitable
Given this I find it curious that someone is claiming that he is "currently helping write... "Alpha Four Kilo".
As the gtexg I saw complete up to that moment can you please us what you have written to contribute to this history.
I am unaware of your qualifications as a journalist so perhaps you could tell us about those too.

As a publisher who has previously expressed an interest in Nick Lee-Framton's book, it was by accident that I came across your public comment that your are "currently helping to write it". Your comment may change my perspective on the book's commercial possibilities. Hence my questions what have you contributed? and what are you qualifications as a journalist?
You have said publicly that you are involved in the writing. You have called publicly for photos for the book. Please answer the questions so that we can all assess the potential of this book and your contribution to it.
I would leave off-line conversations to the next step (if there is one) when we might want to talk about commercial realities. Till then the ball is in your court.

Perhaps you should tell us who you are (name, publishing house, etc). From what you have said you turned down the invitation to publish Nick's book some time ago, so I fail to see what your interest is in it now? A public forum is not the place to discuss contract and commercial arrangements. You are more than welcome to give me a call on the phone number I emailed you earlier this evening and I'd be happy to discuss my involvement in this project. I'm not going to discuss it further here. OTY.

A and what are you qualifications as a journalist? I don't know Don, but having 'qualifications as a journalist', as implied by this question, is not a prequisite to his writing or contributing to a book. Journalists vary greatly in quality, as they do in any profession - some have published excellent work, others books that you'd be embarrassed to use even as a doorstop. And of course the majority of books are not written by journalists at all. Also, I wonder just how many complete or in progress Alpha Four Kilo MSs there are around now. In the early 1990s the late Ross Macpherson of NZ Wings was contemplating publication of a work on the Skyhawk with this very same title. A mutual colleague in a senior position in one of the top advertising firms in NZ informed him that the suggested title was a hopeless one from a marketing point of view and he should look at changing it. Ross never did publish the book, though whether on this advice or due to his untimely death I do not know. Errol

I don't know Don either, but the answers to Perardua's questions are all there further back in this thread, as is the connection with Ross McPherson's manuscript. Anyone familiar with this forum knows that Don is more than qualified to contribute to such a history. Perardua, for someone apparently new to this forum, or at least this discussion, you might like to try a more friendly approach if you want to find these things out?

Per ardua ad astra, perhaps? ... or a couple of over the top postings? ... age supposedly 75? Sounds like a prank ! (On the other hand if not, that's no way to run a credible business) !

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yes I too fail to see the link between being a "journalist"(whatever that is) and contributing to a book on a subject I know a great deal about or writing articles for magazines and other publications (something I have also done - but I definitely don't consider myself to be a journalist!). I'm more than a bit perplexed by the tone of his posts and the implied accusations being made. He seems to be fishing for information or something? It is even more bizarre that he doesn't want to discuss this off-line in person with me which makes me suspicious.

Maybe it's a new variant of the Nigerian scam emails! Maybe they want to sucker someone into thinking they are going to be sued and thus can be forced to make a small out of court settlement via an anonymous internet bank account Seriously ... do we have any lawyer friends who frequent this site? (Or could it be someone reacting to the criticism implied earlier in relation to the current Skyhawk sale/maintenance fiasco)? Those birds should have been maintained to a saleable standard!

I'm a publisher myself, and a policeman, a lawyer, politician, brain surgeon, pilot and ex-USN SEAL who served three tours in Vietnam. Or, maybe I'm just full of sh*t as well?
