I downloaded the ANZAC Day 2012 programmes from National Radio a few weeks back but only yesterday I got a chance to listen. A stand out interview for me was this one with David Strong, a former NZ Army officer who served as a UN peacekeeper in Sarajevo back in 1992, and later returned to Bosnia with the main Army peacekeeping force we sent. The interview enlightened me a great deal as to what the New Zealanders were really doing there. I knew a little about his first Sarajevo unarmed deployment as I remember F/Lt Jim 'Jimbo' Finlayson from Wigram doing the same sort of tour and may actually have been Strong's replacement, not certain. Jimbo told a couple of us a bit about his harrowing time there when he visited our section after his return. I admired him greatly for what he did, and for the fact he took the time to tell us mere baggies about it too. I highly recommend listening to David Strong's interview. I found the stuff about the interation with locals and how the Maori concert party they formed did absolute wonders. Here's the recording link (MP3) podcast.radionz.co.nz/anzac/anzac-20120425-0907-david_strong_-_music_and_war-048.mp3And the whole page of ANZAC Day recordings is here: www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/anzacday
