Has anyone seen this film?
Doesn't look very good, but I may be proven wrong. At least the B-17s don't seem to be up against Tie-Fighters, like in another recent release. ;D

Wow looks good from the trailer, as they all do.Hope the rest is good. Anyone else lament the loss of real footage or even "Memphis Belle" models over cgi or is it just me?

The story line looks pretty good, but it looks cheaply made. Looks very similar this movie, I might add, was pathetic!

The Fortress movie looks ok but the CGI is very much like a game, rather than motion picture. I think with this and with Red Tails scenes I have seen there seems to be far too many B-17's packed closely together and far too much continuous flak too, when compared with actual combat footage.

Take a look at this, this is original wartime footage of the real Memphis Belle. A cameraman was sent up with the aircraft and the footage was made into a feature film. Beats the hell out of the movie, although I quite liked it since they used real Forts rather than cgi.
Yep, the other thing is that the fighters didn't mix too well with the flak - generally flak, then fighters, not together! You risk shooting down your own guys!

Trying to get a chance to see Red Tails at local cinema, but its not scrreening enough times in a day,and I don't have another day off for the next 9,hopefully it will still be showing. Can't say I'm excited about it,I hate cgi,and it looks like it's used to overkill. One could sit and rip it apart from a 'plane spotters' point of view, but I'll try not to do that too much, just enjoy as a bit of entertainment,if I can.

When you say local, do you mean here in NZ? I didn't know it had been released.

Sorry, for some reason thought I had my location on the left there. No,Dublin,Ireland, amazingly we actually got a film released at the same time as the UK. It's out at the moment, but not sure if I'm going to get to see it,screening times are pathetic.

From all that I have read of reviews, so is the film...

It's averaging 2/5 stars, but I've never read or been interested in reviews by critics. I'm just curious to see how bad it is,from the trailer it dosn't look good, just like watching a game.

Reviews can be useful.
Peter Calder writes film reviews for the NZ Herald. I always follow his reviews closely.
I know that if he condemns a film out of hand then I'll really like it. Conversely, anything he praises will be really bad.
