Hi all I took a group of our school's adventure club gliding at Matamata last week. Fortunately there was time to have a flight myself. First time in my life that I have gone up in a glider. Awesome experience!!! Unfortunetaly only had my phone with me so pic's not that good. Uuhmmm yes I know... it was a bit of a squezzzz to get in! Grrrrrr apologies for pics not being right way up! I corrected them on PB but they still came out this way!!!!

Gliding has to be on the bucket list.
It is easy and cheap. Power pilot's have little idea of flying about NZ compared to the more experienced glider pilots that have done so many world record flights here. Of course modern gliders can make even a short joyride so easy, in almost any conditions.
Glad you enjoyed the experience.

Nice one!
My then girlfriend bought me a flight at Tauranga for my 23rd birthday, loved it. It's funny how people think it's so silent,it wasn't!

Yeah , I did about 13 hours in a K-7 ( ZK GBN ) , you certainly had to raise your voice to talk to the instructor , but I wouldnt have described it as noisey either . Good fun , especially with a Tiger Moth as tow plane ( ZK BSN )

The more recent gliders are relatively quiet when vents are shut and conversation is easy. Of course get up to 80kts+ and it starts to get noiser and definately not quiet at 100kts+

Allright I'll bite; I've been wanting to do this since I first got my hands on a glider joystick at 16. I've been flying for a few years now using brute horsepower to cleave the air in twain, but not gliders. I currently get Thursdays and Fridays off. Are there any clubs close enough to auckland that operate those days? (Tauranga not too far, Taupo too far for example) Thanks in advance.

I thought Seamus was doing the rudder..!? No wonder that bit of red cotton kept waving all about the place!
