Did this really happen? Apparently when the first Viscount arrived at Whenuapai way back in 1958 all shiny and new parked up for inspection...Everyone who was anyone in NZNAC were milling around in the cockpit when someone pulled the undercarriage lever...guess what happened? ...Or is that just an urban myth? The culprit was Captain ‘Johnny’ Walker and it occured on 12th November 1958, but it didn't occur while the Viscount was parked. Captain Walker was flying the Viscount from the right-hand seat, and on landing at Whenuapai, he went to retract the flaps but grabbed the undercarriage lever instead. There are a couple of photographs (with captions explaining what occured) on page 106 of “ NAC — The Illustrated History of New Zealand National Airways Corporation 1947-1948” by Richard Waugh with Peter Layne & Graeme McConnell. A model I had commissioned. I thought it would be nice to have a model viscount with Skybus livery... After all, it was the last viscount to fly in New Zealand. www.factorydirectairplanes.com

Here's another pic to add to the collection. The arrival of the first to NZ.

Nice job on the model ZK-SKY just Beautiful...... Factory Direct Airplanes are the folk to thank. The model is approx 1:48. The way they painted it, it looked like a metal die-cast, but it's really very light. I'm going to have them build me another Viscount, but this time in NAC livery.

Still, the disdain felt towards Aqua Avia by the Mouldoon Government was well-known.

Cool...can you post a rear end view? The Godwit roundel on the fin seems to look too small.

Good looking model but although I don't want to rain on your parade the nose section is a little bulky and the nose wheels just don't look right. Interesting as most airliner models from a manufacturer in the PI have this small imperfection.(you probably ordered this in the US but almost 100% of them are made in the PI)

It looks like a small scaled model...and remember thats what it is. A good interpretation, but Id've made the tailfin godwit roundel bigger (comes up well in your 2d pictures further back expat') and made the lighter border orange merge with the fin's leading edge...Of course we'll never know what NAC would've done anyway.

Yeah, the undercarriage wheels were bigger than they should have been. The drawings I gave them regarding the godwit were larger, but still I was not dissatisfied with the final form. It complements my Skybus viscount nicely.

Well I think that the Viscount looks very smart in that Wings of the Nation scheme.
