I took over tech admin of a fleet of 10 Whisper Jets as part of a receivership exercise. About Xmas 1999 they had high winds in the Midlands and one aircraft weather-cocked and smacked nose first into the engine pylon of the aircraft parked alongside. It must have been going through a similar exercise. The receivers were not interested in mooring, storage checks or anything like that of course.. The 7four was missing all engines though so it would be light, aft C of G etc. Something like a Trislander will rear up readily... attaching a weight to the nose gear is almost essential. Aurigny had a small trolley they would wheel barrow out to each aircraft for overnight parking. It was a lump of concrete and they clamped it over the nose wheel. You see many GA aircraft moored at 3 points but instead of tying the nose down many seem to prefer the tail tie down point. If the nose is held firmly, and roughly into wind then the aircraft is going nowhere. I have seen photos of aircraft that have literally had their tails pulled off through poor picketing. I seem to remember visiting Caribou at Ohakea being tied down in windy conditions to big concrete drums? Must have been a pretty rare occasion to have wind like that at Ohakea!!
