Widgeon ZK-AVM to fly again... A comment on my blog tonight by Garth McGearty advised that Grumman Widgeon ZK-AVM was moved today from a farm at Whitford in Auckland to AVSPECS at Ardmore where it will be restored. This time it moved on the back of a trailer with the wings and props removed.
Interesting? Has anybody heard any more about this?

Wal's words were "After 60 years of punishment as an airliner in all sorts of weather all over the country, in all sorts of airlines, AVM is currently in the beauty parlour having a make over so it can now have a life of leisure." I asked if it was to become his fishing boat and he said I was spot on.

It's not so beautiful on the inside just yet and the wings are being worked on right now too, so don't expect to see it flying any day soon. Wal did tell me the scheme he's thinking of, and it's not inspired by Mosquitos at all Zac.
This will be good to see again. I can remember going for a flight in that with Capt Fred Ladd. And distinctly hearing the words "up up and away with a shower of spray" as we headed for the Auckland Harbour Bridge ;D
