That's a Goose isn't it ? Nope....that is a G44 Widgeon fitted with Lycoming R-680E radial engines.

Looks a lot like a goose but yes it's a Widgeon. I agree, it's an odd appearance.

I was searching for something on Google (related to vehicle ferry operations from Mechanics Bay) and came across the following thread in a ProBoards-hosted messageboard forum.... • A lifetime interest ... and ... 27 years researchI has a lot of info and photographs about the operation of Grumman amphibian flying-boats in New Zealand.

For those who've not yet listened to the latest WONZ Show episode, Warren Denholm asked if anyone out there who might have photos or history of his Widgeon ZK-AVM, he'd love to see it.

There are some great photos of it (as VH-WET) in an old Wingspan Mag I have, even a centre spread of it pushed up on the coral sand alongside a floatplane beaver a nice bikini-clad model is leaning on the nose

I'm sure Warren would love a scan of those photos.

I would have said that was a write-off. Just shows what can be done.

Someone must have really loved the old girl to rebuild her after all that damage!! Just as well they did. Wonder if there is a production joint for the rear fuselage?

I've found some more interesting Widgeon (and Goose) photographs HERE, including a movie cameraman filming out of the open nose door while the Widgeon was in flight over Auckland Harbour.

That is probably the wonderful footage that's available on one of the Classic New Zealand Aviation DVD's. It was Fred flying in that film.

Wow, the arrangement of it piggybacking the Beaver is a lot like the Short Mayo composite

Click on the link in the message I posted at 1:34pm yesterday (fifth message down on page two of this thread).
It takes you to a thread on a messageboard where if you scroll about two-thirds of the way down the page, you'll see a photograph of ZK-ENY in Canterbury Planes livery, followed by photographs of it in Australia as VH-ENY, then further photographs of it in Thailand, then under overhaul in Germany where it eventually ended up.
