It really is hard to know what to put in and leave out, in the end we put 20 aeroplanes in the calendar which was a great result I think. A three ship of jets and another of WW1 aircraft made things a bit easier

Looking awesome.
The thing that struck me most was that it wasn't that long ago that this sort aircraft quality and photo quality in a calendar had to come from the US of A... but this is all Kiwi stuff. Gotta love NZ!

When Baz's Auster flies for the first time, calendars won't be as relevant as they are now, for two reasons; 1. The sun won't be as bright in the sky and the earth will recieve only two-thirds of the illumination that is available today. As a result, days will reduce to 20 hours and, 2. Two more planets will be reclassified as no longer and the earth will be settling into a new orbit as a result. It will take several thousand 'new days' to establish the length of the 'new year'. Haha, them's just jokes Baz Keep up the great work - we look forward to more progress shots. Gav, the calendar looks great. My fave shot is the Yak-3 for a couple of reasons. It was really cool to see that machine evolve over the years. I was on the field when it arrived from the States in a million bits and was at Wanaka to see its owner fly her in the final flypast. Also, that photo is different from many and to me has a perfect balance between subject, background, lighting and shutter speed. Well done Shag.

The Pup and Fw 190 are my faves; Pup because the way the light affects the image; the hills are in contrast between light and shadow, but the Pup is bathed in gold. Very 3D, but without the cardboard specs. The diminishing perspective of the 190 gives it a menacing look and with the cloud layer adds balance, which makes it a great composition and a powerful image - it also lacks the clutter of a background of the land below.
Corsair is just a fantastic angle and the Yak is also well captured despite (and because) the shot is taken from the lee of the light - I clipped and profiled the prop blades on the Yak! The blades originally came from a Privateer.

Hi Gavin, I have only just seen this thread. Wel done on another soper looking calendar. What a great mix of warbirds, and it shows how great our local warbird scene is when you see 20 different types like that. Mustangs are wonderful but they don't have to always be included these days.

Here is one of the 2013 calendar photo's, quite like the way the Yak 3 was caught between two layers of cloud, the mountain and late afternoon sun topped things off nicely.
