I was reading in the latest Fly Past an article about one of three Zero's restored in Russia and flying in the States. It said one has been brought by a New Zealand owner and has been loaned to a museum in Alaska!
Any info on this?

That's the Mojave Zero, an all-green example flown in the film Pearl Harbor and the recent Chino show. Id heard of its migration north but not a Kiwi owner. How interesting. EDIT: here's some info and photos, I need to get to bed but shall do some snooping tnmorrow www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N553TT.html

Has anyone heard anything more about any NZ link with this aircraft? Seems it reached its new "home" in Alaska some weeks ago.

I have this same magazine, September FlyPast, and it quite clearly states in the Zero article it was bought by a New Zealand owner and then leased to the Alaskan museum.
Does anyone know who this is? I am very curious, but as they were not named in the article I expect it will be revealed when they are comfortable to do so. Very exciting, would this be the first airworthy genuine Zero owned by a Kiwi? It would be nice to have it come here permanently in the future.

I've just proofed another article on this aircraft, and there's no suggestion of a Kiwi jaunt.

The owner is a foreigner with NZ residency and he has no intention of bringing it to NZ, I am told.

I know one of the Yak-52s in NZ is owned by a guy who lives in Alaska, it's not the same person is it?

From what I have been told the owner lives in the South Island but is Japanese with NZ citizenship. He intends the aircraft to go to Japan.

That is cool! It's great to hear of someone wanting to preserve the IJN's history in their home country. James, I look forward to reading that article :-)
