Craig,When your finished on the Croppie how about coming over and lending a hand to finish my Birdog wing? Free board and food! I would LOVE to... But can't take any of the credit its all Ben's work, I just pay the bills. He is ex RNZAF and a real artisan. Like alot of other things with this resto which have just fallen into place he just turned up when needed. I am not a particularly religious person but sometimes it really feels like someone "up there" wants to see this job done!

Today was a major milestone... The wings have come together for the first time in more than 40 years. To Bens credit all the holes lined up and what I thought could take days was achieved before lunch! Note the hospital beds which were perfect to align the to wings at the correct angle and height.

Definitely a project that IS going somewhere. I'm predicting that this creative and inventive use of hospital beds will become the industry standard in the worlds leading aircraft restoration shops in no time.

Heres a shot of wing assembly mid 60's at Gore. Notice nothing as fancy as our hospital beds!

Good to see the tail end off Hewett's C180 ZK-BEI making an appearance there.

I think you might be right there Craig, I can't remember how much hair he had then, I worked mostly with his brother Tom, but Ray was at Rex Dunedin for a few months/ maybe a year before I left, motor bikes and all. isc

That seems more likely, thanks. Rays hair is about that stage now, not 50 years ago. Thought I might have a photo of Ray at Rex about 66/67, but don't see one. isc

Last time I saw him Ray was working on the Sea Fury at Moree with Dave Warburton. Now that it is in the UK he may have moved to greener pastrues. Perhaps a note to Dave?
