Although I appreciate this thread for actual cockpits, has anyone started a thread for scratch built cockpits..? I have a friend who is building an awesome Me109 cockpit from scratch... just cos he wants to and can.. wonderful handskills and production of components - not sure he would appreciate me mentioning or showing off his project, but he deserves credit for what he has achieved.

I see no reason why it cannot go in here. After all the Oxford cockpit is scratch built.

Hi All, Well as Glen has let the cat out of the bag. I have a "small" project I've been working on for a wee while. The intention is to have a working full size simpit. The project has been planned in the following stages. The first stage is build the structure & the hardware. (So far this has only taken 4 years). I hope to finish this stage by early next year. The second stage is to wire it up for sound, vibration, lighting, controls. Stage three is to make working USB instruments. The structure is wooden primarily due to cost and time. But as you can see as much as can be made in my workshop, the components are Aluminium, or Steel. As with all project such as this, lots of time is spent on making & painting small pieces of metal. I'm currently painting/finishing off Instruments & panels. Attachments:

Thanks guys. And thanks Dave for the welcome. You & I met at the Mossie Debut at Ardmore. I was with Glen. The one with the no frills hair. Not a problem with posting updates. Just the amount of time in making visible progress. Am I able to post multiple pictures, (If so how)? Attached is another photo to show the Scale of the Pit. Attachments:

That is a great achievement so far. I believe that 'active' replica cockpits will have enormous appeal. Making working instruments from scratch are far less problematical than modifying original items to interface with the software. In the distant future we may meet in the virtual world and 'chase' each other about a bit?
