You could still pop in for a snag or two off the barbie though couldn't you Colin? I hope to be there. I'll talk to Sam and see what he's doing.

Anyone have a guess at what the weather Gods shall throw up on 18/19/20? Is there a reasonable reliable site I can access for this or is it what you see on the morning? And..... Tui or Speights? Guessing that as Tui is kicking the can they should be supported....

And..... Tui or Speights? Guessing that as Tui is kicking the can they should be supported.... They've got Steinlager Classic on tap in that bar too.
And a couple of other beers on tap that I've never taken any notice of. Plus several other different beers in bottles out of the chiller.

I have found Metvuw to be the most reliable long range forecast service in NZ. You'll have to wait a couple of days yet before their 7 day forecast comes into play. www.metvuw.com/

Anyone got a line on any accommodation around Masterton for the show? The leave gods have smiled on me at short notice, but beds now look to be in very short supply!
Cheers Daz

I don't think there'll be much left in Masterton, I've recently booked in Paraparaumu which is about the closest I could get, although admittedly for six people.

Dazz, if it is only one person then the Pub I indicated back a couple of pages may have a single room available. Otherwise the motorcamps can accept a campervan or a tent!! And I will be travelling from Carterton every day. I am staying there on Thursday onwards.

You may want to think about Eketahuna or Pahiatua .Both have camp grounds cabins etc . Hotels and motels and b.bs in Pahiatua too .An easy drive to Masterton, good luck .

You may want to think about Eketahuna or Pahiatua .Both have camp grounds cabins etc . Hotels and motels and b.bs in Pahiatua too .An easy drive to Masterton, good luck . Luckily, the big pre-season Super Rugby game at the temporary Mangatainoka Stadium isn't being held during Wellington Anniversary Weekend this year, but has instead been bumped to Saturday, 16th February (the Hurricanes play against the Chiefs). Since this annual match between the Hurricanes and another team began, it has clashed with Wings Over Wairarapa on the years that has been held, which has put a HUGE premium on accommodation throughout the entire length of Wairarapa. Possibly the fact that Tui (who are THE major sponsor of the rugby match, just a stone's throw from their brewery) is now a major sponsor of the airshow may have something to do with the change in date of the rugby match. I guess if you're sponsoring two huge Wairarapa events, it probably isn't a good idea to have them both happening at the same time.
The other option if you are really stuck for accommodation is Wellington. It is very seldom that all accommodation there gets booked out, and it's probably no different to staying in Queenstown but driving over to Warbirds Over Wanaka every day, something which I have done a few times over the years. And Palmerston North to Masterton via the Pahiatua Track (and the shortcut through Mangamaire) is only an hour's drive.

Does anybody know if the Hawker Hunter will be attending?

I have heard that the Hunter requires a cool $20,000-00 an hour to fly! That's a lot of dosh over two days!

I believe over 69 display aircraft for the show. Should be great. Now if only the weather Gods can do their thing.

Info for the day is on their website: www.wings.org.nz/with Friday evening's programme: www.wings.org.nz/docs/print_programme__fri.pdfand a Sat/Sun programme: www.wings.org.nz/docs/print_programme__satsun.pdfThe RNZAF will be there in force too with the old and the new helicopters, including NH90 and A109 and the Seasprite as well. The P3 orion will perform a flyover as will the 757. Towards the end there will be 5 merlins flying together to create a memorable sound!! Also there will be a very strong jet presence there and aerial display, plus a large represntation of the De Havilland breed - lots to look forward too. Not forgetting the Pacific region contingent as well. This will be a wonderful event! I am so looking forward to it Counting down the days now, we'll be down there on the Thursday evening.

I just hope to see the Mossie flying and get some good pics. That's my main reason for going though. Anybody else attending on Friday?

I just hope to see the Mossie flying and get some good pics. That's my main reason for going though. Anybody else attending on Friday? I've got a gold pass for all three days.
And I've got some friends from Wellington who are only attending on the Saturday, but they have gold passes for that day.
