Gavin ,can you describe how the Mosquito is being received there at its new home base? Is there much interest from the aviation community or general public? Cheers.

Check out the cockpit ladder!
I've been waiting and looking for pics and vids of the Mosquito at the Fighter Factory's airshow but there is a noticeable shortage, especially considering what a deluge there was from the displays while she was active in NZ. Am I looking in all the wrong places?

Rain heavily impacted the show on Sat and Sun (grass runway), so there are only a few from Friday around.

The reaction to the aeroplane was fantastic. A lot of people that came to the show came especially to see it. The aircraft was not roped off so people could touch it and look in the cockpit etc and that was appreciated Was hard to get away from people once they realised who the Kiwis were and they are very grateful they are able to see the aeroplane.
I arrived early in the week and saw it fly a few times, weather was an issue at the weekend, the grass runway is made up of normal dirt and sand and a lot of rain came during the nights and a bit of a thunderstorm on Sunday afternoon. Still got to see JU52, ME262, Lancaster and several other aircraft fly.
Was going to do some air to air which some aircraft including the Helldiver but the big tail wheel was similar to a grader blade in the soft ground so we gave it a miss. Next time!!!

That is real nice & real low, real real low. Pity about the bone dome though, it doesn't look quite right to me. Not a biggy though. Steve

I've seen Mike wearing his white helmet in a video and now in Gavin's pic, and both times it stood out to me as detracting just a little bit from the overall "ambiance" of the mossie and the era it represents. At least the Campbell helmets that Dave Phillips and Keith Skilling wear are leather-covered so they look the part.

You can't be an American fighter pilot without a bonedome though!

Ok here is the first one of the Mossie flying at Virginia Beach, that I can find so far. To be honest it is average but better than nothing.

Is it just me, or is the proximity of the strip to the treeline just asking for trouble? Being a dirt/grass strip, just one unsighted rut can slew an irreplaceable pieces of history into, well, history.

And Mosquito was spelt Mosiquito or something... interesting vid despite being handheld and a bit rough at times. Still trying to find more vids.

The grass strip is deceptively narrow in the footage. You would have to get something seriously wrong to end up in the tree line. Doesn't the Mosquito sound just as good as ever on take off
