Good job Gavin!
You have done us all a service as well by capturing those magnificent photos. The whole KA114 journey has been amazing, I really hope a 'full on' book comes out on her rebuild and subsequent flying sometime.
Anyway, thanks again for taking us all somewhere we wish we could have been and doing it so well!!
Cheers Anthony

A few tears of goodbye too no doubt for yourself - Gavin, Warren Denholm and Keith Skilling as you all participated in the BOB flypast there in Canada, far far away, from the first few flights of KA114 at Ardmore last September. Thank you for a wonderful journey, for your time, effort, costs to yourself and your participation in sharing on Facebook and Twitter and your own Classic website and most of all, for us here, for your comments and photos shared on this forum! Yes a book to share of that journey may also hopefully bring in some funds too for yourself and Avspec. Cheers!

It was a bit sad to see it fly home at the end of the show but it is getting so well supported in this part of the world.
The big flypast of all of the merlins really was amazing.
Will be home in an hour. My bags were x rayed this morning and was pleased to see the Mossie model I bought was still in one piece in my bag. It x rayed perfectly!!!

As the commentator states during the film clip... "I think I need a moment now" ... after seeing that.

Here is a photo from one of the flights last week. It will be a few weeks before I post anymore air to air photos from the trip to Canada so that Classic Wings can print a feature before the photos start appearing on the internet. Flying with a Lancaster and Mossie is one of the greatest experiences ever and we could clearly hear them flying alongside.

Brilliant Gavin! Thanks. Yes there will be a lot of work to do working on images and folders since you have gotten back home. And the odd commissioned job as well Welcome back to the southerly and a few frosts to come...

I’ve just been checking out videos of the Hamilton airshow on Youtube, and the ones incorporating the mossie seem to be mostly either taking off, or else doing a fly-past with the Lancaster. There aren’t a lot of videos yet, but the ones I’ve seen so far are (I say this reluctantly) a bit dull. Does Canada have similar restrictions to the USA on how low and how close to the public aircraft are allowed to fly? Also, does the flight-line preclude the aircraft banking towards the spectators? Compared to the Ardmore displays, all the mossie flights appear to be almost straight and level, and at some greater distance from the public. Is anyone able to point me in the direction of a more exciting mossie video?

The flying in Canada was a bit different to what we see in NZ and was similar in the USA. The aircraft are at least 500ft away from the crowd and they have other certain rules that we don't. Some pilots were flying canopy to the crowd but the crowd lines were quite long which makes it harder to hold the aircraft in that pose. They don't fly around the corner so to speak like we see here. Not a lot of aerobatics from the WW2 fighters either but as they had a lot to fit into a limited time seeing it is an active airport most aircraft just did a few passes. Low passes sound good but the sound of an aircraft like a Mustang looping sounds fantastic and some of the notes you just don't hear by flying low passes. The Mossie was not flown like we saw it in NZ but personally I was very happy with what we saw and it was so good to see it again. The big formation of Merlins always was the draw card and was outstanding, the Beech 18 display really was something else.
So after all of that we are just so lucky in NZ, sure we see the same aircraft displayed at airshows around NZ but the display flying we see here is just so good and is a reminder as to how good we have it and if more people at the overseas shows came here they would be blown away.
The Canadian people were just brilliant, the access they gave me was brilliant and really appreciated so I will go back, just not sure when.

Mosquito KA114 at the "Mosquito Memories" forum in Canada last week. This photo does not show everything present as a big model on the left of frame obscured things a bit. Really was a great event with some very interesting guest speakers.

That was fabulous - thanks Gavin. A great and very interesting talk by "Sir Keith Skilling" explaining the hours of preparation and research they had done and planning and decisions made prior to flying the plane. Thanks Gavin!

Gavin, thanks for the description of the north american flying. It makes me appreciate even more how fortunate we are in NZ to not only have people who can build and repair these old planes, but also the calibre of the pilots who display them.

Haha - "Sir Keith Skilling" - I like it, as long we also have a Sir David Phillips. Goes well with Lord Powell of Ardmore (Ngatimozart's suggestion from last year) and his trusty sidekick Sir Michael. And yes, that was a neat talk by Sir Keith. Thanks for posting it.

I see Mr Lewis has already two "kiwi" warbirds, a Spitfire VB rebuilt at Ardmore and the P40C.
