No, Fleet Air Arm. RNZAF always has the blue circle in the centre of the roundel.

Hey up, fellas... I suppose you've all got the Pilots manual for the F4U, and most probably have the US training film about the same? Anyway, all of our stuff has arrived from NZ and in it I found a DVD with the training film and the Pilots Notes. I'm prepared to burn one copy to send to someone in NZ who could then burn copies for those who are interested; I won't do it as I'm time poor...
Any takers?? PM me..

Throw it in the post and mark it (if you need to) "no commercial value" and put down worth $5 this is if you have to put a customs declaration on it. Would Dave bee the keen recipient?

One thing not often visible on Corsairs in flight, but just visible in photo of the Red Bull example is the "spoiler" located on leading edge of starboard wing just outboard of machine gun positions, intended to stimulate THAT wing to drop at the stall rather than leaving the pilot to wonder whether left or right would drop first. Don't know how efffective this spoiler was in service, but fact that it is still fitted on a late model aircraft seems to verify that some people still believed in its efficacy! David D

I read in a book about the development of the Corsair , 'Whistling Death' by Boone. T. Guyton,(good read by the way!) that this was a quick fix ,and was made out of a wedge of wood, doped in position. Must have served its purpose as the later ones were made out of alloy, riveted to the wing. RNZAF? FG-1D Corsair IV KD750, from 1846 NAS / 14th Air Group on HMS Colossus. From: www.thescale.info/news/publish/Royal-Navy-Corsairs-Capetown.shtmlHarry Van Bergen reports: The late Ron Belling's "A Portrait of Military Aviation in South Africa" (ISBN 0 947458 14 X), includes a painting of Corsair 117 (KD750). According to the explanatory caption HMS Colossus docked in Cape Town in January 1946, after a spell in the Far East. On board was the 14th Carrier Air Group, comprising 1846 Squadron (Corsairs) and 827 Squadron (Barracudas). During the two and a half month refit the Corsair IV's (Goodyear built FGD-1's) carried out exercises from their temporary base at Wingfield (outside Cape Town) prior to returning to the UK.
As regards finish, it is stated that the Corsairs were in US Glossy Sea Blue, which showed signs of wear, especially in the form of scratches on the wings. Ron Belling's opinion was that Corsair 117 had a large reproduction of the fairy tale character "Mother Goose" on its nose - rare for FAA aircraft. =====
Nic Millman adds: The nose cartoon on KD750 is more like the sombrero-wearing, gun-toting cockerel cartoon from Warner Bros Loony Tunes than "Mother Goose"There is also a photo of the aircraft following its forced-landing plus another fantastic photo (KD855 1580 NAS ?) for you FAA model buffs out there
