Hi Peter and Dave - that seems odd, as I can see the photo while typing this. At the very bottom of the photo there is indeed one aircraft all by itself so I'm sure I am looking at the subject photo

Can you please save the photo and email it to me, and I'll reload it so everyone can see it.

Hi Dave and Peter, I've just sent you both an email with a screen dump showing the photo I can see.

I think there's something funny happening with the forum software and imbedded links as in Red Baron's post all I see is the line of text "Found ..... itself." no link visible at all.
The other day over in the Navy area the post of recent info on the frigate upgrades didn't display the whole link just what I'd say is the tail end namely "/?vh=e&d=n"

So the P-40s were practicing social distancing back in the day. It must have come back from overseas service recently.

Could that have possibly been NZ3009 being set aside for its transfer to Motat?

I'd doubt it. From what I have heard NZ3009 was gabbed because it was closest to the gate, this one looks furthest from the gate to me.

It's not strictly on it's own either- there are a couple in the shrubbery in front and at least one beside it
And by shrubbery- it's probably gorse

Is the photo that the Red Baron posted Asplin's place? It does not look like Larsen's at the airport. I cannot get my bearings.

Are you looking at that one or the one out to the side about half way down. I admit that on first looking at the photograph that was the one I focussed on.

I can see that one of the P-40s is almost completely engulfed by a shrub, just part of its tail and wingtip is showing. There could be another P-40 in the shrubbery, if you look to the left of the picture you'll see what looks like a little wing tip sticking out.

It looks like a cropped shoot from this photo, which is a 1963 shot.
Here is the 1953 just for the hell of it. The lone P40 is in this one as well

Hi all. Absolutely fascinating going through all these posts (and others in related threads). I'm currently a controller at Hamilton (don't hold that against me, I fly planes too!) and find the history of the airport fascinating. I've started a facebook page in an attempt to collate some of the images I have picked up from one of the former controllers (Graeme Opie). It would be awesome if some of you were able to join and post some of your images. I see that a couple that I have from Graeme's collection appear throughout these posts. www.facebook.com/groups/713799842687822/Cheers, Scott
