Any news on how N451ZS is going and the DC-3 that was/is operating in Tonga? Thanks.

I can vouch for A3-AWP in Tonga - which is alive and well!

A few days ago I managed to gain access to the Fieldays site at Mystery Creek and look at the restored ZK-AZL. The aircraft sits in its own area, under a protective roof The paintwork is a reasonable replication of the original but does not feature the 'HiLand Duster' name, and I don't recollect the 'James Aviation Limited' as now painted under the starboard wing Although the roof does provide some weather protection, our feathered friends are still able to deposit their marks in the aircraft. Note that the front view of the engines are actually just a photographic rendition of the original. No engines are now fitted. All in all, quite a good effort.

The intention is to still add walls to the building when the money is raised and completely protect the aircraft in the future. There's also a plan to possibly shift it and the building to a more user friendly position so people don't have to grovel to get in their security gate to see it. And it never had engines before the repaint either as far as I recall, just fakes.

This was not the original colour scheme. This one came after James pulled out of Airland. James Aviation was never to my knowledge under the wing, but I could be wrong. I do hope they put the name Hyland Duster on it. This is what it was always known by. Other than that, it does look good.

AZL certainly had the James logo on the wing at some stage - certainly in its early green stripe scheme. Dave has shown me some of Ozzie James' photos and the wings of AZL are clearly seen stacked against the wall of the hangar, wearing the James Logo (I think the photos may even be in the thread about the Fletcher prototype...)

Correct, here's the wing in the hangar on what looks to be the day the Fletcher was officially launched?

Judging by all the coats I'd guess its winter time 1955,the year after BDS first flew, and those are some of the first PKD Fletchers James assembled.AZL was in service then,if those were AZL's wings you would expect them to be on AZL out topdressing some where?.

The photographer, Paul van den Berg asked me to post this here - an update on ex-ZK-AWQ c/n 16565/33313, which is now in Rantoul, Kansas, USA as N81907. Complete with Dodson dog, if you will! Incidentally it is the closest surviving "sister" to ZK-AWP, which is 33135 in the corrected series of serial numbers.

Great to see the old girl still about. Is it me or does the engine cowl look different.....perhaps a turboprop fitted?
Thanks for the update
