Agree May be not a Fletcher as first reported? Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Mike Richards says the pilot was new to flying. He says he'd been on a dual instructor lesson prior to going on a solo flight, and the solo flight was when the crash occurred. clearnet.co.nz/news-story.html?national~845684

Can still be a Fletcher - a new ag pilot has to learn the ropes too.

We obviously have to pay more for a better CAA spokesman...

I couldn't get my head around that article - was he actually a new student pilot learning to fly, or was he being trained on ag ops in a Fletcher? I assume nobody actually does ab-initio in Fletchers - I certainly can't imagine they'd be very suitable, especially turbine examples!

Does anyone here seriously think a CAA spokesman would say "the plane was a Fletcher 24 Turbine Engine kerosene" ?

The press don't seem to let the facts get in the way of a good story....

So has EMX just recently been converted to turbine?
I saw it at Masterton in January this year, definitely still as piston-engined.

It's just very poor reporting with the reporter receiving sound bytes that they dont understand. I would say that most young reporters dont know what aerial topdressing is all about. I see one headline was about cropdusters, that they might understand.

Or is EMX still a Fletcher 24 Reciprocating Engine petrol?

If in doubt, the Turbine Conversions/Super Air aircraft have different type certificates. One thing you still can do on the NZCAR is search for a registration, then click on type certificate then you can click list and it will show the aircraft certified as such.
ZK-DDX is not one of above, it's still a modified Fletcher under that Certificate.
