Warbirds Downunder 2013, Temora, Australia

I realise we haven't actually had the Temora press release. So here it is:

Warbirds Downunder 2013

The Temora Aviation Museum is home to a collection of significant aircraft and Warbirds Downunder will feature most of the Museum’s collection from the Tiger Moth, Spitfires and Boomerang though to historic jets such as the Meteor and RAAF Sabre. In addition many visiting aircraft will take part. The airshow is being held as a single day event on Saturday November 2nd and follows the highly successful inaugural Warbirds Downunder Airshow which was held in 2011.

Temora Shire Council Mayor Rick Firman said “How thrilling it is to see Temora’s internationally acclaimed Warbirds Downunder airshow will take place in 2013.

The Temora Aviation Museum has, quite literally, placed Temora Shire on the worldwide map for which we remain eternally grateful. The Warbirds Downunder Airshow is world class and I invite aviation enthusiasts (from all corners of the Globe) to Temora Shire to witness something you shall never forget. All visitors to Temora Shire will be impresssed by, what will be an experience of a lifetime!”

Temora Aviation Museum Chief Executive Mr Kenny Love said “Warbirds Downunder 2013 will be an exciting event as it includes aircraft ranging from Antique and Classics to Warbirds and Military aircraft. The Museum is about celebrating our history and recognising and remembering our Veterans and the sacrifice they made in defence of our freedom and I am really looking forward to sharing Warbirds Downunder 2013 with everyone.”

Member for Murrumbidgee Adrian Piccoli is pleased to lend his support to the Temora Aviation Museum's biennial Warbirds Downunder Airshow, to be held in on November 2nd 2013.

"I believe that the Temora Aviation Museum's Warbirds Downunder Airshow is an event that contributes to the unique identity of the area and also remains a flagship event in the regional calendar," Mr Piccoli said. "The event in November 2011 attracted more than 10,000 people to Temora which means a significant economic benefit to not only Temora but also neighbouring Shires such as Junee, Wagga, Coolamon and Cootamundra."

Gold Pass and General Admission tickets for Warbirds Downunder will be available from July 15th 2013 online via the Temora Aviation Museum website.

Seriously, you're underestimating "red desert". Take a trip to the red centre some time; yes its red, yes its desert, but its quite stunning in its own way.

Hullo Andy, the forum jolly in Connie sounds like a great idea but unfortunately the reality is that only HARS members can fly in her. (insurance and limited classification reasons) But all that aside it`s well worth the effort a brilliant collection in a historic war time site. I don`t know if there are still any DC3 operators doing flight to Temora but that`s an excellent way to go. A couple of years ago I flew from Bankstown with the now defunct "Discovery Air"and it was brilliant. (Learned how to start an 1830 with a dead starter motor.)

Pity its on the same weekend as my annual boy and dad bush pilgrimage. I'd love to get a look at that lot. Luckily we do get some of Temora's aircraft at shows in Melbourne.

Connie is one of the sweetest aircraft I've ever seen.

I'm sure HARS could do with an influx of Kiwi members... ;-)

Hi Andy, the Diggers and Dealers are all members although we only see them once a year. Membership is not a bad deal, apart from playing with and riding around in some spectacular aeroplanes - if you can`t attend you still get the HARS magazine Phoenix and access to the members forums to keep up with what`s going on.

Now that we're into February and WD is early November, I can almost taste it.
Just looking at the link on TAM's website, aviationmuseum.com.au - there is a great lineup of confirmed attendees. Including the HARS Connie and some tasty RAAF hardware. Along with all the fabulous TAM in-house stable, plus visiting warbirds by a bunch of owners who have a long track-record of supporting TAM events.

One machine I am missing while it waits out its rest cycle, is the Canberra. I'm sure it will have its time in the spotlight again. Meantime, for those who indicated an interest earlier, this really is shaping up to be another "bucket list" event. Don't forget Ando's generous exclusive behind-the-scenes tour (special conditions apply), plus the appeal of a relatively affordable trans-Tasman jaunt, and suddenly life's looking pretty good !

Offer still applies for the tour. Showcase at Temora yesterday T28, Boomerang, Spitfire VIII and A37B. Steve Death and Doug Hamilton did the honours - two of the best and not a milligramme of ego between the two of them

Will only be able to take 2 people however as the ferry tanks will take a little bit of room and the people who come may need fairly strong arms to operate the fuel and oil transfers.

Should only cost $6 or $8K each

Just looking at flights, Economy Deluxe on AirNZ for the flight back Sunday evening is looking tempting (after a multi-hour drive that morning after a full-on day).

I've been checking things out on the web for this - note airshow tickets go on sale July 15th. Also, there is a Tent City available on-site for Friday and Saturday nights.

I'd like to get to HARS and Nowra (about 2.5 hours drive S of SYD, or the same from Canberra), and the AWM in Canberra in addition to the airshow. I'll likely use AirNZ for trans-Tasman, especially if I can actually make use of FF miles from SingAir ALK-CDG x2.
Comments on the below welcome.

So option one would be fly into SYD Tuesday, get a car and drive down to Nowra area (FAA at Nowra closes at 4pm, might fit them in that day). Nowra/HARS on Wednesday, drive to Canberra. AWM Thursday. Easy day to Temora (extra time at Canberra museums?), stay in tent city. Show Saturday, and tour Sunday morning before getting to SYD for 6.40pm flight back. Tent buddy preferred.

Option two as above, but stay Fri/Sat in Canberra (accom cheaper in Canberra these nights?), and arrive Wednesday rather than Tuesday. Would only be able to do tour if it was Sat night. Driving buddy/s preferred.

Option three fly AKL-SYD-Canberra (or potentially via MEL if there was a very good reason) Tuesday. AWM Wednesday (I'm told that busing about Canberra is reasonable). Day trip to Nowra/HARS in rental car (probably pick up car night before) Thursday. Temora per option one, and swap cross-Sydney driving stress for SYD transfer stress.

Option four per option three, staying Canberra vs Temora like option two.

If I'm not staying in a tent, I might be able to get camera gear and clothing in cabin luggage. With a sleeping bag, no chance.

I live in Mascot (Sydney Airport)and drive to Canberra and back four days a week for work, I know them both pretty well,it's roughly a three and a half hour drive.If you need any help mapping out your trip, feel free to ask.

Technically the drive is part of my work, I'm a courier, but I like to think of it as three and a half hour drive to work and half and hour work everyday four days a week, not bad money for two hours work every week
