Farnborough air show 42lb That's a heavy price! Pound Sterling (STG) the £ or the modern ghastly acronym GBP for Great British Pounds, but not lbs... yes I know but I was looking on my keyboard for it but don't have it. Do keyboards in the UK have that key instead of the $ key

"I think that's what we call a typo. A$45 sounds about right. (I generally don't know what the tickets cost.)" Yes , sorry about that . I must have included some of the other "expenses " in my memory of what it cost . There was a booking fee etc , but I do recall it was still pretty pricey compared to An NZ show ( but still well worth it ) . Still ,in NZ dollars , a three day gold pass would have cost fairly close to twice the price the price of that for Omaka . Omaka was $300 for an early bird 3 day gold pass ( if I recall correctly ), Avalon would have been mid $500's ( in NZ money )

For some reason I have just looked at the ticket prices for this years show. WOW is right! The cost for one admission for either Sat or Sun is NZ$85.00 .For $5 more its a family pass to Wings over Wairarapa's 2013 show. WOW. At the same time they are proudly announcing an increase in the size of the Gold Pass area. When I asked if this meant less fence space for the have nots they told me they were making more room "up the back". I'm waiting for a reply as to exactly what that means. Conversely the family General passes to Wanaka (Two adults, two children plus a free under five) are being quoted as $180. That's for one day. A three day family silver pass puts you into four figures ($1060). I'm sensing a disconnect somewhere.

Avalon website for 2013 is still up: Adult (15 years and over) $60 Child (5-14 years) $30 Concession (Pensioner, HCC, Student Card Only) $50 Family (2 adults & 4 children) $120 Children under 5 Free Gold Pass: One day package AUD$180 Two day package AUD$340 Three day package AUD$490 And for what it is I don't think that's too bad.

Interesting that ZK-DAK will NOT be there for the stated reason that they would not be able to recoup costs via rides, and would not be able to linger for the Monday. First Wanaka they have ever missed apparently.

yes I know but I was looking on my keyboard for it but don't have it. Do keyboards in the UK have that key instead of the $ key Yes, they have the pound symbol, and mine doesn't - I wont tell you what a fiddle it was for me to find it and use it just for a minor funny! (Thanks for taking it as intended.) Regards,

I don't even need to look any of those up.
I memorised literally hundreds of Alt+ symbols several years ago, and I can still remember them.
It is certainly a lot quicker than using the Character Map to locate and copy them.

I have been to 8 Wanaka airshows, the last being in 2012, however, WILL NEVER COME AGAIN TO WOW. It is advertised as WARBIRDS, I don't want to see general aviation or car races etc. Coming from Melbourne, OZ, it is just too expensive with flights, car hire, accomodation etc. For around an extra $300-00 to $400-00 I can afford to go to Duxford, and see something out of this world. Was in Duxford in 2009, 8 Spitfires, 9 Mustangs, 2 Hurricanes, 3 B-25's plus dozens of other interesting warbirds. Save your dollars and go to Duxford instead.

Really?! Only an extra $3-400! I find that hard to believe....airfares alone would account for twice that?? And it's probably cheaper to fly in from YMML than it is to fly down from NZAA!!
Oh well... up until 2010 I'd only missed 2 WOWs ('98 & '00 when each of my kids were born) but I haven't been back... no huge draw cards that I really want to see.

Yeah Slackie I agree. For the aviation buff there is NO drawcards and what is there mainly comes from Ardmore SO Better value going to Ardmore for $15.00 See you there next display. Mind you I do want to go to Omaka as I think that has replaced Wanaka.

Wings Over Wairarapa out-did the lot of them last year.
They'll really struggle to beat that one in the future.

I can see his point about doing the UK. You do get more bang for the buck but the New Zealand experience is still pretty damn good. But, there are those in the UK that are getting pretty damn tired of the same aircraft at RIAT. Much like I am with the same at Avalon.
But it's not all about the aircraft. It's the fun.
