Was reading in the paper this week about China offering to supply Fiji with new naval ships, weapons and uniforms. I wonder if anyone in the NZ Gov't noticed! "Benign strategic environment" Yeah Right! We are going to wish we had an air combat capability in the not too distant future... Have you got a copy of that article Don? I'm quite interested in what China is doing in the south Pacific at the moment. They have their claws in Tonga too. I looked for an online copy when I posted so I could link it, but couldn't find one. It was in The Press.

Also the original report was a Michael Field article, which can be found on his website www.michaelfield.org/Fiji%20china.htmThe Fijian report talks about patrol boats whereas Mr Field seems to conflate them as to being a threat to NZ (in reality more likely to pose a threat to Tonga and their territorial disputes)!
