I never realised the pre kahu skyhawk had a fuze function power supply to support the FMU139 fuze.
I see that the MER has at least two bombs fitted with MK16 TDDs, I thought they were a post kahu weapon due to the requirement for the power supply for the fuzing.
Could the pre kahu aircracft support FMU139 fuzes?
Interestingly, the two MER centreline stations have M904 fuzes fitted.
And although it's hard to make out the rear RH station looks to have an ogive nose plug fitted.
Perhaps the MER load out was simply a display load showing all the shiny new bomb configurations?

With all that ordnance 02 was close to max all-up weight with internal fuel only so endurance was pretty short. We took off, shot up to the Waiouru training area, hooned around for 30-40 minutes low level in the ranges then Jim Jennings was close to bingo fuel and had to get back quick-smart to Ohakea. We broke formation over Waiouru and headed for Mt Ruapehu. John Lanham was flying me and as OC Strike Wing he didn't fly very often so we headed off around the mountains, up to Rotorua and across to Hawkes Bay on a low level tiki tour.

Wasn't there a blonde photographer called Kay Porteous at Ohakea too?

Yes. Kay and I worked together at CPE in 84/85 and flatted together for awhile in Feilding. She married Andy Daley (spelling?) an avtech around 1989.

A long list but no mention of a Lawson Sue.. Did I get the name wrong ?
I thought there was a Chinese fellow at Wigram about the same time as Dave Sewell and Graham Radcliff. Possibly 1984 or so.

As a member of the Photo trade from 1974 until 1994 - The last seven as Warrant I see quiet alot of confussion on this subject many promotions a few demotions and a few miss spellings. There are quiet a few senior members still around being 3 ex Warrants and afew Flight Sergeants. I was taught in the service world to get facts right.

A spell checker would be a good start, especially for someone complaining about the lack of accuracy in other posts. Is it a p***take perhaps ?

I knew Bill Grey, Murray Greep, Patrick Higgins and his brother Danny Higgins, Miles Pointon all at Ohakea when I was there 1963-1967. And OC Photographic section at the time was S/Ldr Cummings, who had a beautiful dark blue straight-eight Buick coupe. I wonder whether the Neville Higgins might be an error since Patrick and Danny Higgins were not in the long list?

Craig O'Dwyer now lives & works in London, in fact the same road i work in myself!! He owns a very successful cafe & vintage scooter business, rusty Lambrettas & strong coffee are all the vogue at the moment.

Gald to see Mike Donovan in the list - he used to do black & white printing of photos for me here in Christchurch, probably 20 to 30 years ago. Presume he is still in the land of the living (fingers crossed), although he would be getting well into his 70s by now I would say. A very genuine fellow, very pleasant and helpful. He came to the RNZAF from the RAF and must have seen service with RAF Germany. He described to me a flight in a Canberra at low level, but cannot remember much else on his earlier career. He must have left the RNZAF in about late 1970s perhaps. David D

Thanks for the update. Wanganui! Please let me know the name of the road. :-)
He and I hung out a bit. I remember his re-muster from sumpie (?). After he banged out and went to Richmond Av College I'd sometimes get a call from Omaka. Wx had socked in on a X-country and I'd fetch him, so he'd doss in the units o/night.
Last thing I'd heard from him he was in Italy restoring scooters, then I lost touch. Quite successful then, too!
Justine is a nice lady. Hung out with her mad bunch here 'n there.
Man, some of those photogs are waaaayyy back when.
Basil Kananginis was on my RACS, 4/84. Paul Stein, when he was based Woody. Chip Dale, R1/85. I roomed with his mate, Todd Monaghan, during 4TTS.
And a few others . . .
Have to flick thru the journals, now!
