Hi everyone,
Well already we have had three new episodes added to the WONZ Show catalogue in 2013, the very popular Wings Over Wairarapa Airshow show, a short special giving listeners a glimpse into what it sounds like inside the Avro Anson, and just today an intervbiew with aviation artist Carla McKnight.
I thought I'd let you know what other shows are in the pipeline for this year, some coming very soon.
I plan to interview Gary Fowkes of Te Awamutu this month if all goes well, where we'll hear about his interest in Consolidated B-24 Liberators in Royal Air Force service and his website RAF Libertaor Squadrons (www.rafb24.com). Gary also runs the popular Kiwi Modeller website and forum which we'll talk about, and he's also president of the Waikato Scale Modellers club.
Another episode being planned for the future is a recorded discussion between myself and Auckland based forum members Pete Mossong and Kerry Carlyle about the various theories on RNZAF P-40 colour schemes in the Pacific. This stems from the discussion the three of us have had, and a subsequet thread on the forum when Kerry finished his 1/32 Hasegawa P-40M model and was not convinced at all that the colours were right.
I still plan to catch up with Peter Wheeler of Auckland and do a show about the New Zealand Bomber Command Associaiton, which he is secretary of. We'll also discuss Peter's books and his long association with preserving aviation history.
I also still plan to catch up with Phil Furner of Auckland too and do a show with him on the New Zealand Lancaster which is at MOTAT. Phil has been one of the team that has restored and looked after that bomber for a long time, and his father Harry was a WWII Lancaster veteran. I am sure this will be an interesting interview indeed.
I hope to catch up with Richard Stowers of Hamilton and discuss his various books, many of which have New Zealand aviatiors as their subjects, such as his books on Edgar "Cobber" Kain, John "Bomber" Barron, his own father Bob Stowers and his current project on Malcolm 'Mad Mac' McGregor.
Noel Kruse of Cambridge has agreed to do a show or two in which we'll cover his very interesting RAAF career, in wich he was the RAAF's Sabre display pilot as well as flying types like the C-130 and Caribou. We'll also cover his aerobatics school in Sydney, and his beloved Pitts Special and Ryan STM. Plus there is his current role in test flying new aircraft at Hamilton Airport. I think this may all fill one show alone on his own career, and we may do a whole different show that covers the topic of his very popular books on flying techniques.
We are planning a show very soon in which Graham Orphan of Blenheim will tell us all about the upcoming Classic Fighters 2013 airshow. If I manage to get to the airshow I will also make another show there in the field, like I did at Masterton in January.
Another exciting one for me will be (if I get to Omaka) is Al Marshall has agreed to do a show all about the restoration of the Bristol Freighter at Omaka, with an interview done in the cockpit and hopefully this will include an engine run too. We'll also get Al to talk about his own engines, the Cheetah and the Hercules, and other aspects of his aviation life in the RNZAF and as an airline pilot.
It is hoped we can do an interview with Corin McCrae who has worked for both Mosquito Restorations Ltd with Glyn Powell, and now Avspecs.
Perhaps the most ambitious of plans for this year will be hopefully a series of episodes with Glen Turner all about the history of No. 75 Squadron, covering the different eras and aircraft types. This will take a lot of work in preparation but I hope it will be popular in the end.
There will inevitably also be other episodes that pop up and appear through the year too. If you have suggestions please fire them my way.
It is still desired that we can find some aviation related sponsors for the show who will get adverts in each episode, and on the website and forum, in return for helping me get about the country to events and places where shows can be recorded. If you can help please let me know.
