Is that the Brietling girls from the UK, or does Aussie have a team too? Nice close formation by the Cessna Cranes. Or are they Grumman Goose's? They are the UK team. I believe they came out with two aircraft but one went U/S prior to the public displays. As for the real birds they put on a spectacular close formation flyby

Did it reverberate your organs? If so, money well spent to see it. It does, you can actually FEEL the noise! The F-22 has a reputation as being king of loud, but I actually thought the Super Hornets were louder. I like jet noise, especially when it gets to rave-level reverb, but the 4x Super Hornet stream takeoff in particular had my eardrums shaking hands in the middle of my head. That was LOUD.

I was lucky to get to Avalon this year. I thought I saw you getting off a train at Lara, but I wasn't sure

That's a great head on shot of the Connie there I enjoyed Avalon although at times rather challenging to photograph . Lots of aircraft silhouettes due the sun in front. Especially as the afternoon progressed on Friday, and the sun set directly in front of the crowd . We were there in 2003, but I had forgotten just how big a pain that could be. I also underestimated the dryness and neglected to keep my fluids up, resulting in an artificial hangover on Saturday morning, which miraculously went away once I got back to the show. . . A few things that got in the way : Officials Yup. We even started nicknaming them. Great shots so far BTW.

Speaking of pyrotechnics, here is what happens when you aren't expecting them. Spot the Pitts ;D: Of course that means when you go back the next day you are expecting them. The Tinstix of Dynamite show was very impressive.

It's almost as dry there as here, you'd think there would be a rural fire ban.

I was lucky to get to Avalon this year. I thought I saw you getting off a train at Lara, but I wasn't sure I thought I saw you on the train heading back to Southern Cross on the Sat, but I wasn't sure either. You moved seats before we arrived at station?. Busy scrolling through the days shots on camera to notice where you went. Small world. I was there for fri sat and the sun. Went very early to get a fence line position where I wanted to be. On the Sunday I left the big lens and my chair behind so I could have a relaxing wander around the exhibits only I was a bit shocked at the number of people there. I did not appreciate the crowd size the previous two days being at the front. Anyway it was nice just to wander around the aircraft although I did not brave the large queues to get a look inside some of the statics. I wonder what the crowd number were? Sunday crowd I loved the crosswind landings. Even the C17 having fun at it

It's almost as dry there as here, you'd think there would be a rural fire ban. Dry enough to set the grass on fire a few times at least. In the background of a few pics you can see the results: They'd had some rain during the week, but the days we were there (Thurs through Sun) it was dry as a bone. There was a brief shower in Melbourne city on the Thursday, and I was so bemused I didn't make any effort to avoid it. It has been five weeks since we have had anything more than brief light drizzle in Wellington, and that in itself was the first real rain since the New Year. We had a downpour just after Waitangi day, but that has been it, with only a few days that were even cloudy. The trouble is now I'm getting used to it.

Actually that probably was me. Sorry if I saw you and didn't quite see you if you know what I mean. By Saturday afternoon I'd had three very long days after coming over at dawn on Thursday, and was a bit fried . The crowd was much bigger on Saturday at least, so much so that we abandoned our look around the static to go get a good spot. I did a round of the static on the way back to the bus though after the show. Infiltrating to the front was a challenge but I managed it for the displays I wanted. The berm in front of the corporate chalets also proved to be an okay spot.

I loved the crosswind landings. Even the C17 having fun at it I had the camera on the wrong setting so it's a bit blurred, but yeah, there were more than a few bounces on both days It was a nice temporary relief when it blocked out the sun on the rollout though ;D

Well photobucket has been driving me nuts ( hence the missing avatar - must find a new one ) but I'm going to give this one last shot . First up is a shot from the static display area of one of this forums most popular and most talked about aircraft Inside the bomb bay of the B52 ( actually not as big as I'd expected it to be ) Inside of of the C17's - You could hold a decent party in one of these ! Not strictly Avalon , ( but they did have a display there ) Just down the road at Werribee is the B24 Liberator restoration Another Liberator one

Some more from the Friday afternoon and evening. The same Caribou that was at Omaka a few years ago C-130J flare drop. Seeing this thing careening around at low level with no lights in the dark was quite something. Super Hornets Shooting straight into the sun is a bit of a pain, but you do what you can with it:

Inside the bomb bay of the B52 ( actually not as big as I'd expected it to be ) It was a bit smaller than I expected too, but then I recalled that it is big enough to take four quite large nuclear free-fall bombs, or eight not so big nuclear missiles (SRAM or ALCM) in the bad old days with the rotary launcher fitted. The circle on the bulkhead is where the launcher mounts. It's quite an eerie space with that in mind.
