For a while now i have been thinking that maybe this forum needs a name change, perhaps, maybe...
The thing is when i started the forum almost a year ago it was set up specifically as a forum for my website, Wings Over Cambridge, so visitors to the site could leave questions or comments, and discuss issues related to the site.
However it soon began to develop rapidly and has now seemingly developed into NZ's foremost aviation forum (I don't know of any others like it, so it must be...)
It has developed right away from its initial puropse, and the name no longer suits really.
I was wondering, and I am opening this to discussion, do you think we need to find another, more appropriate name. And perhaps one that will look good on a logo for T-shirts or caps, etc?
If you think so, what would you suggest? I want something that largely reflects the RNZAF content, which this is mainly about, but does not neglect the civil aviation of NZ. And it has to reflect NZ too I think.
Any ideas?

Even though I like the name "Wings Over Cambridge" maybe a name change is a good idea. It might attract more people to the forum too if the name is a bit broader?
As for a new name, how about just a minor change to something like "Wings Over New Zealand"?
A site logo? I think something along the lines of the 75 Sqdn Malayan Emergency Canberra logo of a Red Kiwi over a Black map of NZ would look good? I think that alludes very nicely to the RNZAF influence of the site, plus I think it's a cool logo anyway! ;D

Thanks for the input there Craig. So, something along these lines?

I 'hate' people who know how to do fancy stuff on the computer! ;D
That looks really great, Dave. The only changes I'd suggest are to make "Kev-the-Kiwi" a bit bigger and a deeper shade red.
How does it look if the area surrounding NZ was a nice shade of blue?

I didn't make the Kiwi too big because there would have to be room for words too in the circle, once the name is sorted.

I have experimented with the design Here's one with a bigger, darker Kiwi I have to make him a little opaque so you can tell it's NZ behind, because his bum's too big to work it out otherwise. What type of blue? Light, dark,Navy, Royal?

I see what you mean; if the large Kiwi is darker it will completely obscure a big chunk of NZ. Another option would be to place the map over the Kiwi: do you think that would work?
As to the blue, I'm not too sure now because I've just realised that if the blue is too dark all you end up with is a copy of the RNZAF Roundel with a map of NZ on it! I though blue would be nice as the colour of the ocean.
Maybe I should shut up and go and have a wee lie down now! ;D

Wings over Cambridge's New Zealands Aviation Forum.....really a good name.. hard to improve on as many people around the globe recognise Cambridge as they would Harvard for the UNI connection. If you do change or add to...maybe a play on Kiwis do fly?....I don't know ...the red and black looks a little gang like...hard to improve on the red white and blue...the army has adopted the red and black...not a good look without the blue!

I have tried that and it looks much better I think I don't think it needs blue.

That looks great now, Dave.
I don't know about it looking "gang like"; unless we all start wearing leather jackets with it sewn on the back! ;D

There's an idea!
Don't forget it will have wording too.

We could put in a bulk order for replica USAAF A2 jackets with the "limited edition" logo printed on the back! Will the site name run around the edge?

Round the edge, in circular fashion? Maybe. My software doesn't do that so I may have to do that on Mum's PC as she has Photoshop.
Seriously would peple be interested in T-shirts or embroidered patches, etc. There may not be enough of us to make it economic.

Stickers could be a better way to go?

I've just made up a bundle of badges (round, pin on type) for our SAA chapter people to wear to SportAvex (look out for the flying cow badges when you come) These are pretty easy to make up at just over a dollar each (You can hire the machine to press them) and look really good - I can arrange a run (50 or 100) if anyone is interested , and once we get a logo! As the only other regular Cambridge contributor, I'm happy with the name change idea - makes a lot of sense - Interesting how the forum has developed......

Agreed, I think a name change is appropriate. This is the only NZ Aviaiton forum I know about.\
like the logo too

OK, so far the consensus agrees with a name change. What do you suggest?
Here are some thoughts:
Wings Over New Zealand (as suggested)
Kiwi Skies
Flying Kiwis
Red Kiwi, Blue Skies (sounds like a book title rather than a forum)
umm... I's sure you'll have something better to suggest???

By the way, it was not till I began this thread that I actually realised the forum 'letterhead' logo above which I made ages ago actually says "Wing Over" and not Wings Over". Did anyone else notice this mistake?
Feeling foolish!

Now that you've pointed out your error we'll probably all notice it now. You shouldn't have said anything, Dave! ;D
