The owners have given me permission to make it known that this exists, a previously unrecorded Lockheed Hudson fuselage section currently in the form of a disused caravan awaiting refurbishment. It is located in the Hokianga area and might be for sale depending on a number of factors. It has much sentimental value to the owners but they will take historical preservation into consideration. In other words, it will have to go to a very good home! The caravan is the cockpit & bomb bay roof or wing root area of the fuselage. The entry door appears to have been moved forward to just behind the cockpit. The serial # is unknown but there is a bomb load plaque underneath (I am told). 6 or 7 fuselage windows are intact as is the astrodome rim and numerous other small items. The aircraft/vehicle is fairly weather-tight. The structure and skin is in surprisingly intact condition. Anyone interested in more information should PM me in the first instance with your email address and I will send many more photos. I look forward to hearing from you. Wow great to see a great part of Kiwi creativity. Sadly she's not connected the rest of the aircraft, I have seen another one of these on the back of a beach batch property up North Land with a Giant cartoon kiwi painted on the side, also sadly rusting away.
What is he after the potential new owner to restore it to active caravan status ? Thank for sharing the pic and hopefully you can find her a good home

Are you able to accurately pinpoint where you saw the other Hudson caravan up north please kiwiwreckdiver? And when? I'm really interested in the remains of Hudsons and their whereabouts. This one that Wally has found came as quite a surprise to me when he showed me the photos a few months back. If there's another one up north that would be extra cool. It would be neat to have one all done up nice as a Forum HQ for airshows and events.

Now there's an idea Dave, an actual part of RNZAF history as a meeting place!

From memory its been bugging me for ages. No I cant pin point it This would have been around 2000/01 But near Workworth in a near a small but steep bay used as a boat ramp we drove up from the ramp, sat out side a dairy eating fish and chips I looked up and there was the typical mid section of a Hudson/Loadstar with a big kiwi painted on the front. Had a look inside looked to be out of action for a while, hope she is still around. I have a pic somewhere Leave it with me I shall have to dig it out.......

I was wondering if it was the same one, as this one is from up north too, not sure where though. Wally?

Not the Hudson, but here is a caravan and plane that go well together. Took this pic while in UK last year.

There's a bloke on the WIX forum who has a Lodestar he's converting to a truck as a mobile art gallery to take to shows...I like the idea of a forum vehicle along those lines. I'd be happy to chip in work-wise.

Talking to Don Subritzky who says, 'kiwiwreckdriver' was at Leigh where it was, but recently seems to have disappeared. He does not think it is the same one as the cockpit windscreen area was still complete. Also, there was another mid-fuselage approximately 10 miles south of Leigh used as a bus stop shelter for the school kids, (Mathesons Bay?). I remember some years back, probably 30 years or more, picking up a Hudson nose that had been used as a bus shelter for kids at Putaruru and bringing it back to Motat for Barrie East. This nose is the one that is now flying on Malcolm Longs Hudson at Temora. So here is an Aussie Hudson flying with a Kiwi nose.

Hi Folks, haven't checked in on this thread for a while. There's been quite a bit of traffic. I can confirm that the Lockheed Hudson caravan originally referred to in this thread was indeed at Leigh (possibly towards Goat Island Bay?) for some years prior to being relocated to North Hokianga about 2 years ago. The owner's family stayed in it every Christmas holidays. Still no offers to buy. Come on, there must be someone out there who wants to own it? Cheers, Wally.

Stuff the caravan idea, I'd rather fly into event in the WONZ super office (ie a Lockheed Hudson!).
