Greetings,
I've just had an idea today while at work (in the middle of a meeting when my brain was work-switched-off)...
As you may or may not know, I'm planning to start building a Nieuport 11 replica this year at some stage.
What I was wondering, was I wouldn't mind getting some experience with working around classic aircraft.
What's my options here, which aren't too far from Welly ? Perhaps Ohakea Museum, or Hood Aerodrome.
What you guys think?
Cheers

Your best bet Chris would be to head out to Hood and volunteer to work on Peter J's machines, there workshop facility is quite busy and there are a number of projects on the go. Cant say to much as sworn to secrecy but who knows they may be interested and it fits with what you are intending to do. Its also a little closer to home than Omaka, and equally as busy if not more so.

Another option perhaps, are there any aircraft these days at that Silverstream railway museum in Wellingotn? They used to own the Avenger now at Gisborne. I don't know if they have other aircraft. Otherwise, Hood looks like a very go ahead place right now.
Ryan, I don't know what you can and cannot say, but are Peter Jackson's aircraft now based at Hood permanently? What happened to Omaka?

Thanks, Guys.
Omaka could be a little tricky as crossing the ditch is always expensive.
Hood definitely looks like a go and I'll also check out the Silverstream Museum too (not too far from where I live in Newlands).
I'll take the Kwaka Ninja 1000 for another burn up there and talk to some people. Always better than a faceless impersonal phone call.
Watch this space I'll keep you updated.

Of course if you get to know the right people Chris once you're into the circles, you may find someone who crosses the ditch to Omaka regularly and doesn't mind a hitch-hiker.
What does it cost to fly across from Rongotai to Woodbourne nowadays? When I lived there in 1989 it was just $29 on the F27's. Pretty cheap.

This is very true, Dave. I somehow think Omaka is the place to be for what I’m looking for, but Hood is a lot closer and handier for me. I’ve got in-law family stuff on most of this weekend (what you get for being not long married ) but I’ll look at riding up on the following Saturday and seeing who I can talk to.

Most of Peters machines (flying) are in Omaka along with a few of the current projects (BE2). Stuart Tantrum is working through things there. The Camel resides at Hood, the Brisfit is there currently along with more than a handful of machines being worked on, the Neuport is there also. I cant say to much about what is being currently built, non disclosure form has been signed.
