MetService, Weatherwatch and MetWuv seem to disagree with that. But I hope the Classic Flyers weather person is right! Had a blast at the practise show today, took lots of videos.

We've decided to give it a miss today, due to the forecast, and the low cloud base (we live here). Glad we went yesterday. I seriously hope the weather will get better as the day goes on though, for organisers, pilots and airshow goers alike!

Weather is marginal, but things are going ok. Had 30m pause for weather. Just had 6 x autogyro display, neat!

Went yesterday was a great day, brilliant weather loved the displays. Fantastic flight down and back in the Dak from Ardmore and cheap too at $100 return. A few of the days highlites included the Cub act, the Corsair, Spitfire, Kittyhawk, Yak, the WW1 aircraft and the aerobatics. The Tiger Moth was great too. Nice to see the museum aircraft lined up in the public area and a chance to walk around a number of the hangars was interesting esp looking at ZK-LET.

Great shots of the Venom. I don't think I've seen the Ghost started with a cartridge in recent times. She normally has the battery of SCUBA tanks to provide compressed air for starting. Obviously she's a long way from home base so the use of cartridges makes sense. They must be getting pretty rare these days unless perhaps they can be reloaded after use.

Did anyone get any pics of my Adventurer ZK-CKE? (especially Arrival / departure). The SAA stand was tucked away from all public attention on the far side of the known universe, so hardly had any visitors all weekend (seems to be the way homebuilts get treated at Airshows now...) so it would be interesting to see if anyone did actually see it! We were supposed to have an area full of parked homebuilts, but the weather left it very empty nevertheless it was a good show and we enjoyed ourselves. We just really didnt get the profile we had hoped.

Ended up being a decent show although I was a little disappointed with the highly questionable weather reporting ("forecast for tomorrow looks good" when literally every met website was forecasting low cloud and drizzle, and the announcer's comment that "we had to go ahead today because tomorrow's forecast looks really bad" when actually tomorrow's forecast looked significantly better on all forecasts I saw) I guess they were relying on the average punter not knowing any better.
That aside, the actual displays were very good given the conditions were challenging with many of the more high performance aircraft having to perform I think somewhat modified routines to keep out of the clouds. I was personally happy to see the WWI aircraft flying, in particular the Camel which I hadn't seen fly since Wanaka 2006.
Unfortunately the lighting conditions made photography pretty difficult but I'm hopeful I got at least a few decent shots. Overall worth the trip down and at least the weather did allow me to fly down from Ardmore on Saturday and back again today without any difficulty.

I thought it was a great airshow given the difficult circumstances they were under. I was fortunate to photograph the Roaring Forties rehearsal on the friday for the magazine, (my first formation aerobatics flight in a Harvard... What a buzz!) also and got some good shots on the Saturday before the weather closed in on Sunday. Sunday was still very good though, and I think those that did make the effort to turn up got their moneys worth. Its a shame the bad forecasts a few days out kept the punters away... Display highlights for me was Ross Crawfords Super Cubs craziness, the A-37 DragonFly and Dave Phillips Tiger Moth Display (as always!) It was also an honour to see local legend Derek Williams last fertiliser drop from a Fletcher before he retires after 59 Years in the business. 59 Years!!! It was also nice to meet all the fellow 'aero-geeks' again Keep an eye out for the next issue of KiwiFlyer which will have a photo-essay from the airshow in it. Cheers Chris

Great photos Mark, I especially like the ones of the Mustang. That side view almost looks like you were flying in formation with him!
