Keith Wakeman went on to become a very accomplished glider pilot and had the honour of being the first person to cross Cook Strait in a flight from Christchurch to Palmerston North in 1957. The wind was so strong that his Skylark ZK-GAS went straight past the airport and landed at Freyberg College where he was soon surrounded by many excited teachers and pupils. Later, in the same glider, he became the first person to traverse the Southern Alps and circumnavigate Mount Cook.

Hi. I'm interested in getting a copy of the photo you have of Bob Butt. My father is a cousin of Bob's wife June. Bob was the loveliest guy you could ever meet. However we don't have any wartime photos of him. Thanks. DavidG No worries!! I’ll sort that out but you know you can just screen shot the one in here with no loss of resolution, yes??
