I have log book copies from Lyndsay Budge and Russell Douglas , both rear gunners on 214 squadron.According to his logbook Russell was shot down on March 14 1945 on a raid to Lutzknedorf ( Wintershall oil refinery ) He was flying with his usual captain F/Lt Rix in "O". This aircraft is recorded in Lyndsays log ( who included serial numbers) as HB802 , which they took to Sassnitz on March 6.
HB 799 appears only once in the logbooks ( on 23.12.44) and HB 779 not at all.

Fantastic, thank you very much! That is excellent research. Did you further publish this material?

Sorry, my replies are getting mixed up here. Thanks to Rod for the confirmation of the correct serial number (therefore article in FlyPast quotes incorrect serial number, typing error presumably). Thanks also to pjw4118 (sorry don't know your name) for info on HB802.
This is excellent research, thank you again to both of you.
