Sorry Peter, the new forum system for the calendar is crap. This is a calendar post which has the dates on the Calendar itself. but it shows up in the Board as a thread.
The dates are 4th of January 2014, apparently.

I've just noticed a little calendar icon at the top left of the thread, just under the thread name. This gives the dates. You can't see the icon on the 'Recently Updated Posts' page.

Weather doesn't look that great for either Saturday or Sunday.
Northwesterly wind 15-20kts means lots of turbulence at Whitianga.

Well, the Harvards and DC-3 left Ardmore this morning, and the L-39 left in the early afternoon for a display, so I assume there was at least something happening. Apparently it was a bit messy in the morning but cleared up in the afternoon, not sure what sort of crowd they got.

There was a photo on the Avspecs Facebook page showing Doug Brooker's Spitfire there too.

We had a great day at Whitianga, the weather cleared by midday into a stunner, close to 2000 people attended. Aircraft were L39, spitfire, p40, harvards, tiger and fox moths, gyrcopter, glassair, RV12 and DC3. and lots of visiting aircraft. Ground displays of cars, stock cars, emergency services. Great effort by MBAC and Warbirds to put it together for the first time in this form. Finished off with a fun party (I played the music)
Downside was the DC3 suffering a major oil leak at the end of the day. Looking at the oil covering the engine and Geoffs shirt, it may be there a while

Oh no, that's sad that Betsy had the leak. I hope they manage to find an easy solution.

DC3 was still there this morning. I'm told its a prop oil seal failure - port engine. Indeed a good show. I have sunburn.

I've asked 2 people that should know and got two different answers so the p40 was either or both Liz needham and frank Parker who I know did fly back to Ardmore to get the L39 and Doug brooker and Alex tretheway in the spitfire. I know the spitfire sold 3 private flights at least one of which was done while we all enjoyed a beer after cleaning up. There were also 2 yaks and Doug in his aerobatic aircraft and ZK-nut put on good shows as always.

Liz certainly did the final (3pm or so) P-40 display, as I saw her get out of the aircraft afterwards. Frank Parker did the L-39 display.

There were three aircraft at the show I had not seen before: Bell 206B ZK-HKQ/4 of Tukituki Bay Farm Ltd. This was static in the helo area throughout the day. Vans RV-12 ZK-MBA/3, registered to J A & S E M Evans Family Trust, Whitianga in October. Apparently this was a project by the Mercury Bay Area School, who were apparently able to obtain considerable sponsorship support for the project. This aircraft participated in the flying display. Vans RV-8 ZK-WLK, registered to a private owner in Auckland also in October. This visiting aircraft departed early in the afternoon during one of the breaks in the display, so I could not get a good photo of it.

Brilliant, thanks for that. That's a lot of Harvards for one little airfield.

Brilliant, thanks for that. That's a lot of Harvards for one little airfield. In total there were 8 harvards on the field as Derek Williams bought 91 up from Tauranga when he manage to finally get around the weather on his second attempt. only 7 were included in the flying program
