NZ6104, which was the Canberra that crashed into sea near Horsbrugh Lighthouse, 30mls east of Singapore 30Nov64. Judging by the background aircraft, location is NZ. Any advance on Woodbourne?

With so many training aircraft, could Peter's photo be Wigram? Can't see any hills in the background which puts WB in doubt for me, but the brownish grass seems to indicate a South Island location.
Could Wigram take a Canberra?

i was thinking Wigram too as with the Devons and Harvards theretoo, unless there was a WiseOwl on somewhere. depending on where the photo was taken from, the Port Hills can be not in shot.

Could Wigram take a Canberra? Yes., Canberras could and did land at Wigram. There were two B12s lost, one at Christchurch Airport which was damaged beyond repair, and the one shown which crashed into the sea off China Rock, which was an island bomb range. I've seen photos of the sea state and haze around Singapore, and with a glassy sea it is amost impossible to pick the horizon, which is what I think they decided was the cause. The Pilot had a brother Tommy Thompson, also a pilot in the RNZAF, and a Sword of Honour winner at Cranwell. Retired an Air Commodore1

Those are absolutely brilliant photos Colin! Thanks for posting them and for starting this great thread.
Are they your own personal snaps or all RNZAF Official, out of interest? I guess the air to air stuff at least is official. I love the photo of the lineys by the line-up, 'discussing the beer money'. And the second photo of Gavin's last Canberra display is utterly brilliant. I'd seen the first one before, he sent me a copy. But this second one is very dramatic.
Also Peter's shot of NZ6104 is superb, so clear and crisp. My guess would also be Wigram. And though Beagle thought of possibly an exercise, it wouldn't have been Wise Owl then, in those days of Harvards and Devons I understand the same exercise was called Exercise Red Owl. They changed to Wise Owl when the CT-4B's took over as far as I can tell.
Note Harvard NZ1080 in the background. It was lost in service in 1973. Devon NZ1816 is an instructional airframe now.
The shot of the Canberras and Skyhawks together must have been taken at the same time as the ones Don posted a few months back.

The photos are not all official, only one in fact, the rest being private, some mine some others, but I was there at the times they were taken. Photos of Tengah were frowned on by the RAF, and tehres a story there that i might relate one day, involving me being followed from the airfield by a RAF Police Landrover, complete with flashing light!

As I said, photography was not sanctioned by the RAF, although we tended to be discreet! I was visiting the Crash Bay one day and had another 14 Sqn guy in the back of the car who, unbeknown to me, was snapping photos of Javelins. I got back in the car, dropped off my passenger, and drove down toward the gate, which is quite a way at Tengah, a big Base. I noticed this shiny blue Snowdrop Landrover behind me with it's blue light flashing, and pulled over, except they didn't pass, but asked me to accompany them to the Guardroom, which of course I did. I was shown into the RAF Police Flt Cmdrs office, a Flt Lt, me being and LAC in RNZAF uniform. His opening words led me to the conclusion that he was a genuine 'elephant tracker' and couldn't track an elephant through snow. "Where is the camera, and I can tell you I want it NOW".
I said, "There's only one slight but important flaw in that request, and that is I don't happen to own a camera!'.
There were silent glances at the two plods, and then back to me, and his tone became much more condescending. He told me someone had seen 'someone' in my car taking photos, and could I help him. They eventually located the guy who took them, developed the film, and handed it back to him!
I was much more circumspect taking my own photos!

Here's one for the lineys! It would drive Health and Safety mad today. No boots, no helmets, just a suntan and a smile. We had no hangar at Tengah, so even an engine change was done on the line. Of course those Skyhawk fellas, being the sensitive souls they were, would have done it in a heated hangar!

This is a real oldie! Before the Strikemaster, there was the Vampire, and the P3 is in its original as-purchased colour scheme.

Wonderful formation shot there Colin. It really makes you aware how long the P-3K has been in service.

And this is Gavin Trethewey on that same display doing a very low fast run down 09 at Ohakea. Gavin ended up a 747 Captain on ANZ and is still on the warbird circuit. There is daylight under him, but not much! I think that area behind is the bomb dump escarpment, which means when he cleared it he would have been under 50 feet! Looks like over the threshold of Runway 15. The cars are driving on the base access road, and the stand of macrocarpas is where the truck weighing station is on SH1. The AMS flightline was about to get a face full of Canberra - great stuff!!!

Beautiful shots nz8v8a. Note the temorary grandstand on the Wigram apron, it must have been an open day. That large black aerial on the HQ builkding was no longer there when I served there in the 1990's.

Stumbled on this forum by accident when I was looking for something else! Great thread, brings back memories from my mis-spent youth. This is a great photo of the flight line and I can even recognize one of the people standing there. Would love a full size copy if possible and hey, beer money is important.
Tengah flight line. Lineys having their usual chat about who brought the beer money![/quote]
