They started uglifying them with the -G imho, the extended wings, tails & other bits of the RB & WB-57Ds & Fs did nothing to help. Steve.

Great photos. Keep em coming if you have more! I can relate to the tropical rain. Not so great if you are working on the aircraft at the time, but good for cooling things down and flushing all the crap out of the monny drains! Righto Don, there seems to be a bit of interest, so here goes...This is not the 14 Sqn pan, It was wher 60 used to park their Javelins so must be after 1966, but there are four Vulcans in the line-up! 74 Squadron with their Lightnings arrived at Tengah mid-1967 and this line-up also shows a T-13 Canberra. I was on all of the four Vanguards in 1969 and 1970 and do not recall having a T-13 on any of those deployments. My guess is this photo was probably taken in 1968. Skyman / Al.

Tengah flight line. Lineys having their usual chat about who brought the beer money! More likely Foxy Hill and two others whose names I can't seem to recall are probably discussing whether to go to Halfway House or Bugis Street or both after a few at the McGregor Club! Photo looks like it was taken sometime in 1969. Skyman / Al.

"More likely Foxy Hill and two others whose names I can't seem to recall are probably discussing whether to go to Halfway House or Bugis Street or both after a few at the McGregor Club! I believe this photo was posted by phil82 on this thread rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/2014

I took the photo, (well its a slide really) and can confirm it was 9 or 10, if I care to go through my slides I may be able to tell you as it's probably a Kodak one with the date stamped on it.I don't think it's Foxy, maybe Phil Wheeler. The T 13 didn't stay for the whole deployment as far as I can recall, as to which Vanguard?, again I'll have to pull out my original slide. Maybe later in the week!

Discovered a few photos from way....back! Though based at Tengah, 14 Sqn detached to places like Labuan and Gong Kedah, the latter an ex-Japanese strip built very close to where they landed, just south of the Thailand border. We arrive courtesy of an RAF Beverly, up tents, then down to the beach with large quantities of ice for the beer! On the beach, we watched a localised thunderstorm with torrential rain, pleased that we weren't in it, till we got back to Gong Kedah and found a [flattened tent yes i am still alive and kicking. and i did enjoy making the airforce recruiting ad. the haircut businees got so bad at ohakea, people wore crash helmets to bed to keep there so they wouldn't wake up in the morning bald as a badger. lol. no rooms in those days.only dormitorys. i slept under the bed one nite. the photo at kong kedah was i think in 1966. i was on that deployment and it hosed down. as reagrds the land rover taking out the rudder lock for the canberra. i heard the a/c at woodbourne blew over the landrover. and yes i also enjoyed my time as a loadmaster on andovers. what a great aircraft.i remeber seeing one at butterworth. and in my wildest dreams i never thought i would be fliyng on them 15 years later.

This is Gavin Trethewey, who was the Canberra display pilot at the time, performing a final display at Ohakea before delivereing the bird to Woodbourne for the Indian Air Force This pic reminds me of a story my Dad told me from when he was based at Ohakea. It involved Ross Ewing I believe and a beat-up at Ohakea in a Canberra after he had been informed by ATC that he was a new Dad. He took out an aerial attached to the control tower with his wing evidently. Can anyone corroborate? Also, a question regarding some of the pics on this thread: Why were the serials so large on the fuselage and wings on the Canberras in certain stages of their life? i don't think ross ewing flew on canberras. somebody correct me if i am wrong

i was on those vanguards. and on one of those trips. we had a modified b57 belonging to the americans. it had super wide wings. the wing tips were just about touching the ground. and i remeber the aircrew looking like space menand been delivered to the a/c in a special vehicle.

That was probably Vanguard 9 (about september 1968) The was also a Canberra from RAE there with a pointed nose with a probe on it and dayglo paint I posted a photo I took in my stash thread.
Yes it was at Woodbourne that the Canberra blew the landrover over and rolled it into the fence. I am led to believe the landrover driver was "Pros" Leathem

You misunderstood whispers, The RAE Canberra was there as well as the USAF one. You can just see the wingtip of the RAE one on the left.

Re an earlier post, am able to confirm the WB 57 F is flying with NASA, apparently they to operate 3 for hi altitude research activity. That could mean anything in today's world.
