I was at Ohakea 10 days ago and learned that there was only 1 CT4 Airtrainer aircraft servicable, with another structural issue grounding the remaining fleet. I was there all day and only noticed a single CT4 flying at any one time, of course I cant confirm that it was the same single CT4 each time but given what I was told on the day, it appeared to be a probability.
I was told 3rd hand that PTS needed the Pilot Training Capability project to be delivered yesterday.
Today, the ATC RNZAF Flying Scholarship for Jan 2014, has been cancelled as the RNZAF cant support the course due lack of aircraft.
Anyone in the mob care to add to the story?

Anyone know how many of the new trainers we will be getting? If they are completely taking over from the CT-4E then they will be needing at least 12, and delivered very soon! What is there in the marketplace that is ready to go and could be delivered in 2014?

Got this off Facebook.... www.facebook.com/groups/exrnzaf/It has been reported that at an ATC fundraiser last night CAF said that the Ministry of Defence is negotiating for Beech T6 Texan II turboprop trainers. No numbers were mentioned. At moment this is not an Airtrainer replacement and is an advanced trainer. However the whole of the flight training system is subject to a Request For Tender issued in December 2012, and an announcement is expected this month. This T6 negotiation is only part of it.

I think it has been a well known fact for a while that the T6 has been top of the list. I think you find that there will be no airtrainers in the mix as ground based simulators will used.

The T6 is an awesome machine. Must be a dream to fly. But please let me know if there is a redundant CT4-E aircraft available as I am more than happy to take it off their hands

The CT-4Es are leased off Aeromotive do they will return to them at the end of the contract. I read somewhere that there are new or near new T6's already built and available, so to be getting them in mid 2014 they must already be built or on the production line. At one stage there was talk of just 6 airframes being bought initially. I hope they have seen the pitfalls in that sort of short sighted thinking and they are going to push for at least double that number in the first batch.

Isn't BAE sniffing around to do the Basic Flying Training phase like they do at Tamworth NSW?
