Hi Rob, I personally have no problem with this. But it would be best to check with his family too. I seem to recall that one of his sons, possibly Malcolm (?), was living with Don when he died and I see his place is still listed in the White Pages so the son must still live there, at 9 Sheriff Place, Hamilton 3216 - phone (64) 7 856 6131.

All,
The article I referred to on my 27 February post in this thread has now been posted at www.combinedfleet.com/articles.htm. It is titled "91 Bombs: The Japanese Attack on Trincomalee". Here is the abstract:
This article offers a detailed examination of the Japanese attack on Trincomalee on 9 April 1942, which has not been given the attention it deserves. It was the first attack by KidÅ Butai which did not enjoy the element of surprise, the last attack it made on a port, and the only one in which it used level bombers exclusively. It also foreshadowed Midway in a number of ways and echoed Pearl Harbor in another. It was a powerful attack, involving 91 level bombers armed with heavy bombs, but inflicted relatively insignificant damage. The article lays out what was hit, what was missed, and what should not have been aimed at.
My hope is that the article raises the bar of our understanding of the attack on Trincomalee, but my inability to read Japanese means that I'm bound to have made a number of errors and omissions. I hope that the article prompts a lively discussion which brings more information to light, so I would invite everyone to have a look at it and post their comments here.
Cheers,
Rob

Dave, FYI, I called the number you gave but all I got was a recording saying it was no longer in service. I also attempted to find Malcolm via Facebook, etc, but struck out. I nevertheless kept the photo in question in my article. My assumption is that the family would probably have no objections, since I have properly cited its source and no one is making any money from it. Thanks, Rob

I guess you've done your best to find them, so I say go for it.
