I just saw these photos on Facebook of an army parade: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152181452116926.1073741923.131788986925&type=1I hate to be critical, but that new "Warehouse Pyjama" uniform looks so sloppy compared to the old duckshooter DPM uniforms. And it looks even worse still on a Colour parade to have both types of uniforms on the same parade ground with DPM's smattered all through the parade. What were they thinking? I also note some have dark brown T-shirts underneath the new uniform, some have tan, and one NCO of officer (with a swagger stick under his arm, or is that a brolley?) doesn't even seem to be bothering to wear a T-shirt. Swords with working dress?? And even the Colour Party wearing working dress with white gloves, what the hell has the Army come to? Don't they have SD parade uniforms and lemon squeezers any more? I could understand if this was on the front lines of Afghanistan, but no it seems to be a New Zealand camp.

Yeah I have seen a lot of it in the NZ forces, not so much UK but it happens, parading in Combats. Looks awful, but I suppose it reminds Joe Public of what they are there to do. In a similar vein the 2 piece RNZAF flying kit looks bloody awful, like those shots you linked, I just want to yell 'TUCK YOUR BLOODY SHIRTS IN!"

I believe you have misinterpreted the photos. The change of command parades featured are internal unit activities. They are not performed in or for the public so the choice of dress is totally appropiate and legal including the swords and colour party (actually a guidon in this case as its mounted unit) dress.
As to the mixed dress, not everyone has the new uniforms yet and wearing T shirts is a discretionary form of dress.

They must do things different in the Army then. If any flag came out for a parade in the RNZAF it was best clothes all round.
It doesn't change the fact that the new uniforms they are wearing look bloody awful, either.

Calling a Colour, Standard, Banner or Guidon a flag is just about a hanging offence I think the difference is for the RNZAF they are considered a ceremonial item while in the Army they represent the history and soul of the unit therefore are much more part of the unit and brought out, perhaps not routinely, but on more occassions than just annual ceremonial parades. Yes the new uniforms most definitely were not designed to look good on parade but then that is not their function.
