New Zealand Mosquito progress -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi All I visited New Zealand 10 days ago and whilst there visited AVspecs and Glyn Powell and had a look at Mosquito progress since KA114 for Jerry Yegan flew in 2012. Thankfully there is much to cheer about in the Land of The Long White Cloud in relation to Mosquitos. Some will have noted that Glyn Powell's Mossie is up for sale, not an unexpected development but a little sad in some ways - Glyn will however still get to see it fly in NZ for a while. The Good news is that apart from Glyn's aircraft AVspecs are now building TWO more Mossies - one already discussed and another as yet unannounced one. More here www.warbirdsonline.com.au/We are also now on Facebook so take the time to like us please www.facebook.com/pages/Warbi...49810131808491Kind regards John

Great news on all fronts John, thanks for the update! It will be great to see the three projects progress, as far as the owners wish.

Excuse me if this question shows my ignorance. What is the status of Glynn Powell's Mosquito? There are a number of projects in NZ underway or in the wings and I've got a wee bit confused as to which is which. I'm not asking for confidential information.

Also, I see that Corin McCrae's company in Pukekohe, AEROWOOD LTD, is or has produced wooden parts for the British "People's Mosquito". Are we permitted to know if he and Glyn (who I often refer to as Lord Powell of Ardmore - a fitting tribute from NgatiMozart some years ago) have teamed up to carry on the work that Glyn started on Mosquito production?

Not sure about what's happening with Glyn's NZ2308 as the sales ad for it was withdrawn from Platinum Fighters' site some time ago. Currently on the go/in the wings in NZ: - T.III TV959 for Paul Allen/Flying Heritage Collection, expected to fly in August (recent video here, discussion here - ownership now public knowledge as is in latest Classic Wings mag) - FB.VI PZ474/NZ2384/ZK-BCV for Rod Lewis, possibly to fly by Easter 2018 (discussion here) - NF.36 RL249 being rebuilt as an FB.VI for The People's Mosquito, work on wings underway by Aerowood - an aircraft of unknown mark and serial for an AvSpecs/Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar project, currently stalled/on hiatus (discussion here, BHHH project website here) - B.IV DZ542, not sure who for (possibly the BHHH project aircraft)

Cheers Zac, succinct summary! Amazing to consider the number of airframes in NZ currently with our resident examples.

Depending on the BHHH aircraft, by my count we have ten Mosquitos/parts collections with ID in the country. Not bad!

Update on TPM's plans www.peoplesmosquito.org.uk/2018/02/03/bringing-de-havilland-mosquito-back-home/Bringing the De Havilland Mosquito HomeThe People’s Mosquito Ltd, a UK-based charity dedicated to restoring a De Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB.VI to UK skies, is in detailed discussions to bring a significant proportion of the restoration build back to the UK. ... Under the revised plan, The People’s Mosquito will continue to partner with Mosquito Restorations, Aerowood and Avspecs in delivering the wooden structural components, including fuselage and wings. However, all forgings, control surfaces, undercarriage, key aircraft systems, as well as engines will be delivered, installed and tested in the UK. ... Media interest in the project has been considerable, including interest from several documentary makers. The decision to bring the build back to the UK is therefore seen as an enabler for providing TPM’s supporters with unprecedented access to the restoration, as well as providing young people with extensive opportunities for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. John continues: “It’s an incredibly exciting time for the project as we progress commercial negotiations with our UK suppliers, but for the foreseeable future, we continue to prioritise fundraising activities as we seek to secure our fuselage through suppliers in New Zealand.

Props are going together now then once they are hung and a few tests are carried out they'll be spinning. Either this week or the following.

I think you may have missed my point, Baz. Are you sure it was "earhole" you heard or were your buddies saying something else...?
