So it is still just as likely that they are searching the completely wrong area as it was two weeks ago, I guess. No wonder there are so many conspiracy theories erupting all over the net about terrorists and secret military bases...

I didn't realise until just now how much the search areas have moved in the last couple of days. Bear in mind that aircraft will be looking where they think flotsam will be, rather than necessarily were it is thought to have crashed, so some movement over time is to be expected. Also, the ships conducting underwater search operations are presumably in a different place than most of the aircraft (although some aircraft might be looking for on-going release of flotsam). www.jacc.gov.au/media/releases/2014/april/mr009.aspx

So, does the black box float? Or does it sink where the impact was?
I see some Chinese vessel is allegedly picking up underwater pings.

No it doesn't float, lets hope this isn't more media making things up as the battery for the recorders should have expired by now. Then again sometimes batteries give more than they were for designed to.

I hope it IS the flight data recorder and that they locate both it, and the wreckage at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
Because that will show up all of those lunatic-fringe conspiracy-theory nutters in the USA who are claiming that the airliner was hijacked by the US military/CIA/etc and flown to a secret US military base. The amount of garbage appearing on the internet is getting worse & worse every day. There are entire websites devoted to that whacky bullshit now.

The delay in finding was so they had time to plant the 'evidence', can't you see, sheeple!?!?!?!

Tony Abbott needs to keep his mouth shut and let the head of the search comment about things. Those poor famailies don't need to have their hopes raised yet again only to hear nothing is confirmed again!

Actually you'll find that the media has been quoting from some aviation magazine editor who misquoted the PM in his press conference. The PM's office released a statement earlier saying he was misquoted.

www.beehive.govt.nz/release/rnzaf-orion-return-nz-after-mh370-searchJonathan Coleman 30 April, 2014 RNZAF Orion to return to NZ after MH370 search Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman says the New Zealand P-3K2 Orion involved in the international search effort for missing Malaysian Airlines plane MH370 will arrive back in New Zealand on Thursday. “I would like to thank the crew of the Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3K2 who have played their part in the international search effort for MH370. They did a highly professional job,” says Dr Coleman. “Around 40 Air Force personnel were involved in the search over 53 days. They completed 27 flights, spent 100 hours on search, and a total of 276 hours flying. The P-3K2 searched around 1.5 million square kilometres of the Southern Indian Ocean, an area about eight times the size of New Zealand. “It was important that New Zealand played our part alongside our international partners in the unprecedented search effort for MH370. The Air Force’s upgraded P-3K2 Orion, with state of the art sensors, was an ideal option for search missions like this. “The cost of the search for MH370 was managed within the NZDF’s budget and Air Force allocated hours. The total cost is estimated at $1.2 million.”

It arrived back at WP about 3pm today. Buzz-and-break, then landed on RW21.
