Dare I tempt fate be saying that the weather is looking promising? Looking forward to it! Anyone know our chances of seeing two Blunties up? Here's a teaser from a few weeks ago Ardmore140503_8129flr by errolgc, on Flickr

The "new" Strikemaster flew at least twice today, so perhaps it will be displayed?

Hi all there will be 3 ex RNZAF Strikemasters on the tarmac together on the day. Not sure what is happening flying wise. Pioneer Aero will have a gazebo up just behind the crowd line please stick your head in and say hi.

Great day! Normal selection of local stuff, visiting Dominie, RVs(?) and Venom! Blue skies at first, then high cloud. Good re-enactors.
Thanks everyone!

Probably the biggest crowd I've seen at one of these open days so far - granted the fantastic weather would have been a big help. It was good to see the Venom even if it was a pretty brief display.

Colin should be first up, he went home earlier... I got home at 6:30pm and have 1700 to sort through! Hmmm, sequence shots - may be all bad sometimes!!! Saw Dave and ErrolC and Damon and Colin... a lovely day, better pics with sun behind!! I hope... (northern side off Airport Rd)

Oh well, I've found a few but I have cheated with the camera and X2 brings the resolution down to give me a 600 eq lens, makes them hard to find in the sky sometimes... I do have one or two shots in the air... talk about noisy from behind!! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by suthg, on Flickr P6010192 by suthg, on Flickr Another surprise visitor... Was Sean Perrett flying the Venom? A friend of mine at Pauanui said it did a fly-past there earlier in the day. That's a bit of a detour from a line drawn between Ohakea and Ardmore. Didn't make it there myself, but could see and hear the airfield attack aircraft from 5 miles away in Manurewa at Mountford Park pools.

I don't think there were any announcements about the Venom, it kind of just showed up. Did one pass after taking off (after the final scheduled display set).

Another few more including the DH Venom ... Takeoff - nosewheel lifted... P6011503 by suthg, on Flickr Airborne... OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA by suthg, on Flickr Flypast - dull skies and light by now, struggle to make a good photo. P6011537Crp by suthg, on Flickr Dave Phillips flying ZK-BEN in another awesome display, you need a video of this display to show his incredible skill, falling leaves and all!! P6010859 by suthg, on Flickr And the Roaring Forties in a rare lineup... P6010873 by suthg, on Flickr I still have some rugby photos to edit and post tonight for the local paper for Wednesday. A lovely day but poor lighting in the afternoon made it hard. Good friends there too!

The Venom was flown by John Luff. He's seen there sitting on the wing, I guess. He simply decided to come up for a visit and put his aircraft on static display, I guess.
Graham that's not The Roaring Forties, there's six of them so that's the airfield attack Harvards - which had at least one Roaring Forties pilot in the mix (JK) but Frank and Liz were in the fighters at that time, so it was not a team thing. There are other Harvard display pilots outside the 40's.

If was an excellent day. I really enjoyed it.
Dave Phillips threw an extra heart stopping manoeuvre into his Tiger Moth routine this time with the engine failure at low level and emergency landing on a very short remainder of the strip. Well done to him for perfect control in the situation.
