Can everyone here cast their minds back to the 8th and 9th of March 2003 to the Warbirds Airshow held at Ardmore.
The March 2003 airshow was the one in which the Lavochkin LA-9 made its public debut, flown by John Lamont. Also attending the airshow was a lovely black Avro Cadet, the DH60M Racing Moth, Catalina, Dakota, P-40N ZK-CAG, and other usual Warbirds. I think from memory there was a crackingly good low level display by an Orion, and possibly a big airliner (Air New Zealand?).
Who has photos of this event and can help me to piece together the details for the Airshow Archive, please, such as attending aircraft and their pilots or crews?
I seem to recall this was the airshow that made the TV news on the Saturday because they had so many people show up the queue was backed to the motorway and causing major hassles so the fence was ripped down to let the cars flood into the grounds to speed up the process of clearing traffic. I went up on the Sunday with my best mate. Seems so long ago now. There was also the fuselage of the Mk 14 Spitfire, and a P-40 under rebuild on display.

There were two warbird projects on display: Spitfire Mk XIV NH799 ZK-XIV P-40 (Tony Banta?)

The Learjet would have been ZK-XVL which is still based at Ardmore and fitted with underwing hardpoints.

Well, I've found my prints. Don't think I can add anything to the above list, but I'll see how other photography projects go over the long weekend - might scan a few.
Also found some Wanaka ones, 2006 and 2008 I think? Done with a P&S 35-135mm? Some actually able to be shown in public.

It would be good to see these. Each airshow in their own thread so people can add their own too.

I think I have some pics from that one, IIRC there was also a Sea sprite and a Huey there and the Sea sprite had an AGM 64 missile there which arrived in the back ofa white van.
I remember a stunningly low pass or two from an Air New Zealand 747-400 and I thin a Hercules was in attendance as well. I'll try to scan my pics in this weekend and post them here.

I displayed Pitts Special S1 EES at Ardmore that day. In fact I did two displays that day, I snuck out during other acts to do a display at Kaiaua on the Thames coast.

Hmm, this was a ISO800 film I think, rather noisy! Might try with different scanner settings. My other film (used for statics, not scanned yet) is lower ISO, but the cropping on the prints is rather shoddy - tempted to get a couple re-processed! Hunter exRSAF by errolgc, on Flickr Sadly the La-9 was just finishing flight testing, and didn't fly on the Saturday, so I missed it! La-9 prop fitting by errolgc, on Flickr

That film of the Boeing 747 was bloody cool to see again. So the crew were Lance Simich (captain), Mark Shepherd (first officer), Bruce Donnelly (actually flying the display?) and whoever that was giving the excellent commentary from the cockpit. Great stuff!

The above lists Ray Hanna as flying the Lavochkin and John Lamont the LA-9. I have it as the other way round from other sources. In fact I didn't even know Ray was there till looking into this show in more depth this week.
If the LA-9 only flew on the Sunday, I must have been there on the Sunday. Mike and I got to the show a little later than it's start time and missed the beginning, and we had to leave about 2.30pm or so because we both had to be back to start work at 4.00pm. We were just heading to the car when the LA-9 took off so we got to stand and watch it a few minutes and then kept walking as it displayed. Was sad to leave but glad i saw it make its debut.
In that case I cannot have seen the 747 display if that was Saturday only. I thought I'd seen it but may be thinking of another show.

Fabulous flyby of the 747 - the last pass was lower and faster and clean! Very impressive, and a lovely way to remember them - only two passenger planes left on the fleet I think, due to be retired and replaced perhaps this year. Others can correct me as usual!!
