The hoo-dacky on the spinner is for balancing the prop, right? Possibly for doing the Mag timing?

Yep, a timing indicator. Just like a protractor measuring degrees of rotation (using gravity).

Are any of the Mil-8 still flying?

Thanks Errol. Great stuff. It looks like that RNZAF CT-4E is NZ1990, but as I don't know which pilot flew it I won't add it into the page.

Great to see photos from this show. I've been thinking of the La-9 lately, so it's nice to see her debut.
Typerated - at least one was flying in 2008-09, it came into Wanganui for gas one day. We all downed tools to wander over, because "WTF is that?"!

At least 2 CT4's in that shot.

Yes the Red Checkers were at the show so there would have been at least five there, maybe six if they brought a spare. Plus there was apparently a civil CT-4E there too (ZK-PAC) and also good old CT/4A ZK-DGY.

And the prototype PAC 750XL!
Great photos Dave, the La-9 looks gorgeous and the film grain gives them such atmosphere. Also, I love seeing part-restored projects out and about like the Yagen P-40 and NH799.
