Up till about June 1942, RNZAF FTS's/SFTS's trained both SE (Single-Engine) and ME (Multi-Engine) pilots on the same courses, but using different aircraft of course. Only ME trainers used by RNZAF were Oxfords, whereas SE trainers were Gordons (1 FTS, Wigram), Vincents/Vildes (2 FTS, Woodbourne), and Hinds (3 FTS, Ohakea), although these elderly biplanes were all succeeded by Harvards in mid-1941 (Wigram, Woodbourne) and early 1942 (Ohakea).
Getting back to the career of C N Gall, he only carried out ITW and EFTS training in NZ, was then shipped to Canada in June 1941 for his advanced training at an RCAF School.
