THIS BOOK turned up in the mail today. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago, so I didn't have to wait too long for it to arrive. I've had a quick look through it and it has a section containing a brief history of every G-21, G-44 and G-73 airframe ever made, including the French-built SCAN 30 Widgeons. All ten of the Grumman amphibian airframes which have held NZ registration (six Widgeon, three Goose and one Mallard) are covered in the book. Yet another book I've got to find space for in my well-stocked bookcases.

I've had a few days now to take a more detailed look at the book and it is an amazing reference work if you are interested in webfoot Grumman amphibians.
In addition to chapters on each of the three aeroplanes featured in the book (the G-21 Goose, G-44 Widgeon and G-73 Mallard), the book extensively covers every airframe produced, and all operators (both civil and military) of these aeroplanes. In addition, you can look up any airframe by serial number, or by who operated it, or by any civil or military registration it operated with. All entries in each chapter of the book are cross-referenced with entries on the same airframes in other chapters. And I note that Captain Fred Ladd's book, “A Shower of Spray and We're Away” is listed in the extensive bibliography of other publications about Grumman amphibians.
In the Introduction chapter of the book, it is stated that a second volume will be published, covering the G-64 Albatross. Something to look forward to.
