To be honest I'd never noticed the squared off tips, ...but I did notice the huge slipstream from the R-2800 idling buffeting me while I tried to take the pic !!!! ;D Yes the Thunder Mustang is quite a machine, pity about the less than nice colour scheme....but I guess in a warbird colour would have made it look tacky next to the "TAF". Yup, theres something about standing in the slipstream of a big radial engine that gives you goosebumps - The cold! At the Waikato Aero Club 70th anniversary airshow I was marshalling aircraft. we had the Catalina and T28 waiting to taxi out and I was standing behind them holding back the crowd. A rain sqall came through and with the combined slipstream the temperature dropped to nearly freezing (it felt) but I wouldnt have wanted to be anywhere else at the time.... Just think how historic that corsair slipstream is!

oh yes I know what you mean Bruce. While everyone was standing back, I seized an awesome (2) photo potential. Most people looked at me like I was mad as my Oakleys went flying off my face 25m behind me in the slipstream!!!
However, as it was about to move, I could see there were going to be some added rpms to the big radial, so I didn't push my luck any further.... ;D

I'm glad you liked, Phil The photos cannot reflect the noise, the smell and the rumble of all of those historic and spectacular aircraft unfortunately. Quite a gap now until the next airshow I believe Anyway, what's happened to this forum lately ? Gone really quiet all of a sudden Cheers Chris
